Feel free to add to this page, but this is sort of a way of us players expressing our wants from Fender.
1) Fender needs some new guitar and bass models, the new pawn shop series is a good start, but it's just a mix of tele's and strat's, where are the new guitar designs??Blacktop basses are really sweet, but there just a mix of the two P and Jazz...
2) Fender needs better,or more interesting color schemes... I'm not sure if they still follow the car manufacturing colors.. but mix in some blues, purples, and oranges. Kind of like the "International Colors" they did in the 70's and early 80's. The american standard does have a couple of cool colors, like Char Frost Met, Oly Wht, Blizz Pearl, but the rest are kind of boring IMO.

They need to resurrect the Starcaster and Coronado, even if they came out with a lower cost MIM or MIK version. They would give Gibson/Epiphone a run for their money and competition for the 330/335 type semi hollow and hollow bodies.

^^ Agreed the Starcaster was so cool...
It seems after the employee buyout of '85 Fender lost its will to design new guitars...

They need to cut back on all the zillions of models of guitars and concentrate on making a handful of affordable made in the U.S.A. great ones. IMO the Pawnshop and Road Worn series are pretty sad. Don't get pissed at me if you own one, it's only my opinion and what you like is your business. Way back if you wanted something original and different, you made it yourself, not buy some cookie cutter thing off the shelf that some huge corporation made for you. I saw two guys in the same band playing the RW Strats and I just cracked up.

Agreed, maybe instead of making 25+ different Strat models, they could make 5ish and concentrate their energy on designing new ones. What I would like to see is a modern Jaguar made in America with a maple neck and fingerboard, 9.5" radius and medium jumbo, or jumbo frets. Oh and a modern Esquire. Esquire> Telecaster.

Fender needs to make space, a buy one get one free sale would help get rid of all the old stock glogging up the market, makes sense to me and I'm not even a salesman, Brad if you can fight your way past all those old Strats and Teles and get to a telephone I'm sure another promotion could be just around the corner.

I'd like to see the '68 silverface drip-edge combo amps resurrected, using the current blackface re-issue platforms as a basis.

I'd like to see a "straight" (ie: AA864) Vibrolux Reverb Amp re-issue (PCB okay) sans the "hiss-trionics", the gimmicks, and those miserable offshore Jensens.

The '64 Vibroverb should be re-issued as an affordable part of the standard blackface line, dispensing with the Diaz mods and utilizing contemporary PCB construction.

The "Spankmaster Reverb Amp" (DRRI conversion with a 15" speaker) should become a regular production Fender model.

Bring back the Prosonic amps -- combos and piggybacks.

Arjay

A real Bandmaster too, not a cheesy DSP VM kitchen sink Bandmaster. Hand wired for me. I'll buy one in a minute if you get rid of the cheap Illinois Caps and other cheap cheesy components.

I'm sure Fender will stick with what they've been doing. I don't think they're hurting for cash, and until that point, most corporations won't be changing much.

I think Fender is doing a fantastic job with guitar design. The Pawn Shop Series is a good example. The '72 in particular is very nice. They are at least attempting new designs, whether they turn out to be keepers only time will tell.

And let's not blame the current Fender Regime for not making the next "Strat"...let's face it the Tele, Strat, Les Paul, 335, the V and Explorer have not been improved upon since thier inception. If after 50 odd years no ones come up with another design that can sit in that company, let's not blame the current designers. (And no a PRS is a Gibson remake, albeit a different take on it, but a copy just the same).

I agree that there are some amps I wouldn't mind seeing, a real Champ with a Tube Rectifier and Arjays' version of a Vibroverb would be great. But I can't blame Fender for not issueing some of these...the champ back in the day was a student model and the '57 Tweed Champ is a $1K amp, and not really practical so the cost for one would be prohibitive in the current economic climate...it is important to us all for Fender to exist as a company.

Just my take on this, but I think Fender is doing a fine job all the way around.

The Stratocaster has undergone many "improvements" since it's inception, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. Even the body and neck. So has the Tele, Les Paul and probably the 335 too. These guitars stayed around because the basic design is timeless, they still exist because of the improvements made to them. Some of the old Strats I've played throughout the years were real dogs. Some were beautiful. Same thing today. Some great, some just meh. I think the Pawn Shop guitars are right up there with the Hello Kitty Strat. Just another mediocre design and tone. I'd rather have one great Strat than a million variations of the same theme.

Here I Go. Off on in My day again, when I wanted a new guitar, it was a cheapo from god knows where, or I waited until I could afford a nice one. Fender/Gibson it really didn't make any difference. the names were synonymous with Quality State of the Art instruments. and they only came from America. I know that we cant go back to that time but I wish we could. :)

----Danny,

America makes the best stuff in the world, it's the Walmart crowd that can't be botherd to keep American jobs and money here in America. It's ironic that those who put there money into foreign countries often get their jobs outsourced.
