I've been looking around the internet for awhile now to gauge my 2007 American Series Telecasters price and I couldnt find anything until yesterday.I figured it would sell for a max of $700-$800 like the American Standards do but I was on ebay yesterday and I saw 2 stock American Series Tele's (used) that had their bids end at $1,000 and $1,049 after the bid wars were done. Now I paid $1,100 for mine when I bought it new in September of 2007 right before Fender changed back to the American Series Line in early 2008.So basically my question is why did it go for so much?

Here's several out of many reasons:

-Shills.

- Some have some sort of attachment to that particular year/model/color guitar.

- Some have a buyer looking for a guitar like that who are willing to pay top dollar.

- Some are obsessively competitive and once they set their mind on something, losing is not an option.

- Some are willing to pay "X amount" and no more. Once they get outbid, they keep bidding with no intention of honoring their bid. Their only objective now is jacking up the bid price in hopes of the person who outbid them will keep bidding and now have to pay that much more for the item; it's a spite thing.

- Some are from foreign countries and don't know how much the price genuinely is or, because of where they come from, it may very well be a bargain.

Of course, there are many more scenarios.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Or... since you can't get them any more, the darn thing may still be worth what you paid for it. Stranger things have happened. VG Strats have been going pretty high lately, well above their final close-out prices at GC.

When I'm bidding on eBay, if I really want it - I get it. And I always honor my bids, since 1998. 1475 all positive feedback.

I wonder if it's the old 8502 hunger rearing its head. I have an 02/03 American Series Ash tele that I was offered $1700 for about a month ago. Also have a guy wants to trade a Gibson Les Paul Studio for it........um.......nope
