3000 hits in the career of a major league baseball player is a rare achievement. In Jeter's case, he's the team captain, the first NY Yankees player to achieve it, and has accomplished it during his entire career with that ball club. To have topped it off with a home run, puts the icing on the cake for serious baseball fans.

The emotion underlying the event is not unlike that which would be generated by England winning the World Cup in, let's see, how do you call it over there.....'football'?

Jeter is an amazing athlete. He could have played pro Hoops, but went with
the smaller ball and bigger bat...congrats to him!

Only one other in that 3k club did it with a round-tripper, Wade Boggs.
