No. It wouldn't be hard, they're all pretty simple circuits. But why?

You can get some schematics from that site.

I've built a couple, it's kinda fun but not cost effective unless you're building a clone of a superexpensive pedal. There are sites that sell kits of pedal clones but I built mine from scratch because I wanted to learn about pedal building and not just solder stuff together.

I have. There's a great website out there called Build Your Own Clone. http://www.buildyourownclone.com

They have everything you can imagine by way of overdrive, distortion, chorus, etc... pedals.

Ebay: Ibanez Tube Screamer (genuine vintage model) - $300 bucks.
BYOC: Classic Overdrive (TS-808 - SAME THING!! It just doesn't say "Ibanez") - $69.99 8)
You just have to put it together....

I built their tiny little kit called "Confidence Boost" because I wasn't sure if I could do it and have never really messed with circuit boards, resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc... And the little kit was only $14 or $15 bucks. If you $^%& it up, unsolder your goof up, and try again. Mine works perfectly fine and could be viewed as a version of the MXR Micro Amp. It's just a simple volume booster. I posted it on BYOC's own forum too!

Yep, I've been building stuff for a long time. I even used to layout and etch my own boards and build boxes from Craig Anderton's book. I also have some BYOC kits. The confidence boost, two British Blues Overdrive pedals one modded, one stock and the digital reverb. I plan on building a few more. Great kits with nice components. General Guitar Gadgets has kits also. If you want to learn something about effect pedals and have the satisfaction of building something yourself, BYOC kits are great. If you have trouble, they have a forum with plenty of people to help you.

The confidence boost is a really simple kit and can be turned into a pedal or if you want to get creative, build it into your guitar.

I've built two byoc kits and I've modded a Boss blues driver with a Monte Allums kit. All work just fine and I'm happy with the tones.

This is exactly what I want to do.I want to build a simple overdrive.no pots or switches.I want the most basic overdrive.just to know how one works.then I'll add switches later on my own. :D

The confidence boost isn't an overdrive device. It's just a clean boost. It will overdrive a tube amp, but doesn't sound as good with a solid state amp. It's pretty much just a soldering practice device that sounds decent. Mine's pretty quiet. It does have one volume pot in the kit. It's a trim pot that mounts to the board. I replaced mine with a regular 100K audio taper pot. It does not come with an enclosure. If you don't want a stomp box, you can use anything you want as an enclosure as long as everything fits.

If your soldering skills are good, this might be more of what your looking for young grasshopper. It's an overdrive pedal that's sort of a modded Tube Screamer.

Here's what I built. I actually like it better than my Tube Screamer. If you have a Strat, do the mods to knock down the brightness. I run two, one for single coils and one for Humbucker equipped guitars. I think they sound great.

That's where some of the distortion comes from. There are other factors too. That's just a really simple explanation. The sine wave is clipped. Here's a little more technical explanation. Notice the sine wave before clipping.

Here's a little project for you.
