Before I open it up, (non-returnable) has anybody used it?

 That looks like a killer deal for that package! I also agree that you'll get the best sound quality with an interface at some point, but I don't have one yet, and I think some of my tunes sound pretty good (SQ wise).
I mic my amp with a condenser mic (AudioTechnica at813) straight into the computer and use GoldWave for all my mixing/editing needs. I also have Cake Walk Music Creator on my computer, but I'm not that advanced yet  . The main thing I think makes a difference in guitar sound quality when recording this way is using a little noise reduction on the track to remove recording hiss.

Update... I haven't had as much time to explore the AVID mic yet. It's been so long since I recorded anything... what I have done I like. It took some trial and error in placing the mic. The software was a bit steep of a learning curve (for me). I'm generally happy with it at $100.

I really like the compactness of it all. I discovered it has it's own sound card. So disabling my old computer sound card was a necessity. It runs fairly smooth on my old Dell 2400 with only a gig of memory. I keep my computer tuned up. I was a bit floored to find out the complete application is over 7 gigs

Anyhow, once I have more free time the real fun begins! Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I think this will be just fine as a pinch recording device. More recording gear will most likely be acquired later. For now, this is a very good start.
