I know what overdrive is but what makes it work I know it is the over powering of a tube or something But what part is over driven in a solid state pedal?Diodes,Capacitor, resisters? What makes it work???

From what I understand....and DO NOT quote me as gospel please :p

But I believe one method is by forcing the over amplified signal through certain transistors causes the signal to be clipped, such as it is when a valve is overdriven which causes the distorted signal.

I believe you can also force the signal through a diode which causes part of the signal again to be clipped causing the distortion.

I imagine one of the amp brains of this forum can provide a much more accurate, reliable and thorough explanation as to why this actually happens for you!

so I see 2 diodes,2 resisters, and an op amp.whats going on???is power being sent through the diodes and causing the distortion???why are there 2 diodes going in oposite directions???

That's a basic soft clipping circuit. It's basically just back to back diodes in a neg. feedback loop. A more proper overdrive circuit is as so:
