Hey, I have nothing against DT per se, just that SRV could have and should have done a lot better. But Texans are very loyal. And drinking buddies and old time partners count a lot. I'm all for loyalty. Heck, at least you can just listen to Stevie's brilliance and tune out the drum machine. And maybe the personal relations between these guys kept Stevie alive a few times. They probably deserve more credit than they ever get for that alone!

Bar bands are the cornerstone of American music. The last place you can still hear kick-A live music locally. Drone on, DT!

I'm afraid if you state you're a recording artist in order to strengthen your opinion, you have to back it with some credentials. I'd like to know hat albums feature your guitar stylings. I'd also like to know what makes you think The experience was a good Backing Band. Why do you think Jimi needed the Band Of Gypsys.

And I must again point out that if it was friendship and loyalty alone that kept Double Trouble together, Chris and Tommy wouldn't be in it. Chris replaced the original Drummer after Lou Ann BArton left the band, and Tommy Shannon replaced Jack Newhouse on Bass in 1982, after Recording and touring with Johnny Winter as part of And. As in Johnny Winter And.

I feel I must clear up a statement I made earlier about the Performance being Par for the course, that PAr is Very High. It was a Great Performance, just not His best, or Double Trouble's Best. But one bad performance does not a Hack make.

For hard rocking blues SRV's da man, and his rhythm section played it like he wanted it. He's not a Jeff Beck with the new age blues approach, or a BB King with the out of sight jazz/blues fusion and incredible blues piano backing. He's playing hard rocking blues.

I don't actually have to do anything. That would be work, and ya gotta pay me to work!

To be accurate, DT did an ok job on the recorded tunes where they had to show up clean and sober and play the lines demanded by the producer. But in concert, and especially without that monster genius Reese, Stevie took off on solo journeys they were simply not capable of following along on. And you can't say that about Cream or Jimi's bands.

After a few beers at the local juke joint, DT sounds just fine. And I'm sure they love their mothers. They're perfectly appropriate backing guys like Jimmy Vaughn. zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Here's the deal: we're free to disagree on issues here all we want. We can disparage or praise any famous individual in the public domain we like.

What we are not free to do is insult or attack one another personally. This site maintains courtesy between posters. Repeat: they MAINTAIN it. Let's get back to music.

That's not right. Tommy Shannon was not the bass player in Johnny Winter And. Randy Hobbs was.

Tommy played bass with Johnny Winter just before And. He was on the three albums: "Progressive Blues Experiment," "Johnny Winter," and "Second Winter." All very great albums. As were the And albums

 I thought his backing band was always called And  I also could have sworn he played on the Studio Album "Johnny Winter And". It had the song "Aint That Kindness" on it. My favorite Johnny Winter song. Thanks for setting me straight, I hate being the bearer of Misinformation :)

Speaking as primarily a bass player i would say Tommy Shannon is a fine Blues bassist, Tommy is clearly not the soloing showman that Stevie was or even that Jack Bruce was with Cream, Tommy was quite happy to lay down a groove and let Stevie do his thing. However, it's good that we all have an opinion! 8)

And it's great that these guys are supported in their declining middle age by loyal fans. Keeps em off the welfare rolls and helps our economy. They do jobs that Mexicans either can't or won't do. Take that, Lou Dobbs!

Explaining jokes is like having sex using a manual. They're both downers.
