Hey Nikki, I'm still in North America but, to me it depends more on how much of a hassle it is to deal with the warranty issue. If your shop is local and they have a good tech, by all means give it to them, for all the previously stated reasons. But if it's a long drive coupled with a not great attitude when you get there, and if their tech sucks or you're not sure, rip the sucker apart and fix it. It might cost you a pickup or a switch but you certainly know your way around the electronics, so....

So there!

Too bad you're having a problem but I guess shite does happen!

My 2 cents,

(Read this is a mock Cockney accent)
I say, old chap...this is the Screamin' Armadillo's British cousin, the Yellin' Hedgehog...

If you want a Brit's advice, don't be a wanker! Throw your guitar in the bonnet of your auto, clean your windscreen and eat some bangers&mash and get the twiddly bits checked out by a authorized technician. Then drink a Guinness.
Cheerio!

That didn't fool you one bit, did it? :(

I should have said Bellowing Hedgehog. Brits don't yell, do they?

Well Mr Hedgehog (I presume it's Mr) British women yell, British men shout.

Guys I gotta fess up. I did have this problem with my guitar a week ago. What I really wanted was a cross section of opinions on how people would handle it. I presumed (much like Mr Armadillo) that people from big population centers would be more inclined to hand the guitar in for repair and be without their #1 for a while. Whilst people from the sticks would be more inclined to have a peep for themselves.

Looks like I was proved wrong.

Oh, though I drive a German car. If I threw the guitar under the bonnet of the car and drove it to where I bought it. No warranty and even the better class of Old Testament Prophet's. Better known for zoo boat building, wouldn't get it working.

That's where we keep the engine. The boot is where we put guitars and amps.

I had a 50/50 chance...I knew it was one or the other... :?

...and since it's a German car, would that be an Otto-mobile instead of an automobile?

You'll have to forgive me, I only got two hours sleep last night and I'm hitting Idiot Hour*.

Try chancing those odds with Mrs Armadillo's luggage and see how you fare!

I don't know, but I might have listened to the Black Eyed Peas if they were from East End.

Hi NIck,you got my feedback and I'm from Canada not the U.S. but I still say let the dealer do the work and keep your spare parts for some other project.

I love the American perception of all things English, lol. (Oh, and that should be Yelling - rather than Yellin' - Hedgehog).. As for drinking Guinness, I'd rather be lowered into a piece of heavy duty farming machinery. Only the Irish and 6th generation Irish Americans (pretend to) like the Black Stuff, and that's for sentimental reasons.. Everyone else has quite properly realised that it's undrinkable.. :?

Toodle-pip!!

And what was the verdict Nik? Did it go back to the dealer, or did you fix it yourself?

Thanks for putting into words, what I have always (secretly) thought. What IS that stuff, anyway? Especially when there are SO many other delightful brews nearly everywhere you go.

Uh, cheers!

Adey I fixed it myself last week. Nothing more than a short on the switch. Similar to what Martian suspected. Though theres no shielding paint on my guitar. It doesn't need it. I saw how the middle position lug had nearly shed the wire. More or less tinned the wire back onto the lug... Bob's your aunties live in lover.

That wasn't the purpose of this post, I just wanted opinions. There's no way I'm driving the thing from Skeggy to Bury just to be without my #1 for a week or so. Warranty be damned. I'd rather risk voiding the warranty. But I understand how people wouldn't want to void the warranty and be fully prepared to be without the guitar for a while as a consequence.
I really thought that more folks that live miles away from a service center would take my attitude. I was wrong. Perhaps my thinking needs adjustment.
