He's a giant in every which way.

If only he was dead, then he'd be enormous..

The first time I got to see Walter Trout and the Radicals was at the Ft. Lauderdale Blues Festival in 2003. I had no digital camera back then so this is a scanned photo, but I was in the front row and this is as good as it gets. Sorry about the quality. He's playing the well-worn '73 Strat that I believe he has since retired.

The way Walter plays I am surprised that the fretboard isn't on fire. 8)

This is the thing about Walter, IMHO: There are plenty of guys who can play "blues rock" - that is, they can play rock licks for days over a blues progression. But most of them are not really playing the blues. Walter understands the blues, he understands telling a story and building tension and release in his solos, he understands what notes to play when and where. And he absolutely, positively burns up the fretboard like nobody's business :D .

His work with John Mayall was exceedingly tasteful. :)
