Sounds like a great idea. It'd be an awesome tool for the guitar collector to have.

One thing we could all do to help you is give you our serial numbers with whatever the ORIGINAL specs of the axe were...I have e-mails from Fender Customer Service with spec sheets (original pickups, neck radius, etc.) regarding my Strat, Tele and two Fender acoustics.

Would you like that PM'd to you , or did you have a different research method in mind?

In exchange for our feedback, you must post a link to your avatar pic. I feel partiotic when I see that pic, and I'm not even Canadian!

BEST OF FORTUNE!!!!!!!

Having put a novel out on the market, please accept respect for the courage to announce you are starting a book. The best way to begin is to begin. The best way to continue is to give it time every single day, even if only 5 minutes per.

And so it begins... a sneak preview into the earliest incarnation.

I am thinking a good photo of the front and back of every model per year etc. Samples of all custom colors etc etc.

1 - 2 pages of text per model per year? Depending on popularity of the model etc.

This could take awhile....

Good start. May we see some sample text, please?

Where possible a very useful suppliment to each page would be close-ups of headstocks and decals. Also neck heels and pockets, the undersides of pickguards and detailed pix of bridge saddles would be amazingly handy when and where you could manage it.

Given that a large part of the function of such a database would be to help people ID genuine and fake instruments.

Carry on.

Cheers - C

I could create a database of everything Fender and perhaps publish it (for free) as a .PDF file for everyone to read.

This honestly needs to be done. The information sources on vintage guitars is lacking and to be honest from 1970 - current there is not much information (good information) available on models.

I already have a huge database that I reference for myself.... why not share it with others?

I think I would focus mainly on Fender electric instruments, perhaps leaving amplifiers for a later date. My knowledge is lacking in that area.

I have all the needed software to create the project.. I think I will start today!

It's a great idea. I've often said that everyone writes about the golden age, but there is little in the way of books on the 2nd golden age (after the buyout till now). I think wecan all agree that Fender improved greatly when the new owners took over in the '80s. Also I would like to see a book about Fender colors. Yes there are websites, but there isn't a reference book that we can look to and see examples of all the Fender colors. It was be very cool to see different Fender guitars with in all the colors.

I'm sure there are plenty who can help here. Alain in particular is an encycclopedia on FCS.
