I've been listening to LastFM since I got up this morning and they played Susan by the Buckinghams a couple of times already.I was thinking about all the great hits thase guys did and promptly ordered a greatest hits album from CDUniverse.I really liked the harmonies and arrangements of their song except Susan which ironically is my favourite song by them but I don't like the cacaphony near the end-They could've dropped that or changed it.I hope to do a cover of some of their songs when I get gigging again.Any more Buckinghams fans out there?

For whatever reason, they never resonated, here in this head.

The Buckinghams go back to my jr. high school years! I vividly remember "Hey Baby, They're Playing Our Song" at my first ever dance. They were from Chicago and started out as a blues band until they got signed. Then their producer and the label's A&R people gave them a makeover to appear more like a British Invasion band, hence the name Buckinghams. The "freakout" at the end of "Susan" was inserted to make the band sound more modern, more psychedelic. I believe it was the producer's idea and the band didn't like it.

All I have left is an old cassette . . . and nothing to play it on. :(

I got in touch with the Buckinghams yesterday on their website and facebook page and was listening to their new live remakes of all the old songs-they still sound as youthful and fresh as they did in the old days.

I still like to play their version of 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' and 'Don't You Care'. I used to think that they wrote Mercy, then later I found out otherwise.

Thanks! Actually, the CD version of my cassette is on the same page on the lower left . . . with bonus tracks!

BTW - Here's The Buckinghams' website link http://www.thebuckinghams.com/

The former lead singer, Dennis Tufano, isn't with the band anymore. He's doing voice work in Hollywood and traveling the country doing a Bobby Darin tribute show or something like that. I hope the film work pays better than the oldies circuit.
