Stay safe, mind your manners 'tween the crackers and the cookouts. Don't go checking out firecracker duds with your fingers or your faces. Don't be transporting fireworks from Pennsylvania to NJ and NY. The boys in blue are looking for you. There have already been 70 arrests in NY for illegal possession.

To those currently in service, with family in service, and to all of those who have served, our deepest thanks and gratitude. I leave you with a remarkable tale, told to me at dinner Friday evening, as a thought for the day.

An ex-Marine friend of mine, now nearly 80, was dining out in West Palm Beach with a cousin, an ex-Navy man. They were both wearing caps representative of their service and trading 'service' stories, as two crusty old military guys might. In particular, his cousin, who had been in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, apparently, had been involved in The Battle of The Coral Sea.

Well, they had taken little notice of the couple with young children seated at the next table, but when they called for the check, the server told them that "their friends" had already 'taken care of it."

Peace.. :)

Great story about the WWII vets, it's nice to know that some people appreciate their freedom and those who fought for it. I used to reload ammo for rifle, pistol, and shotgun so I have a tremendous respect for explosives. Firecrackers and fireworks made overseas scare the crap out of me, I don't trust them at all. Too many "duds" that go off in peoples hands. I could make my own firecrackers, but I would probably get in trouble with the wife for blowing up some of her flowers

Please be careful and stay away from explosives. And if you still "must," wear safety glasses, the best you can afford.

Doc that is a great way to show your appreciation. I have done this same thing on several occasions for returning veterans anonymously as I don't want to be noticed. I would encourage anyone to try it because the emotional reward is worth the extra tab. Also I don't frequent very expensive establishments.

I have a USS Arizona Memorial golf shirt which I wear on days such as this. I always wear it, weather permitting, when I fly. I want people to think.
