so my friend needs a bass player for his band ok....i play but not bass. if i wanted to, i could play in his band bec. the bass is only the top 4 strings on the guitar.

...yeah stick to guitar mate, that's really the wrong attitude to approach bass playing with :)

Tottaly agree. I started playing the bass with that attuide, and man i sucked. then a started over and actually tried and got excited qbout the bass and it is fun. I am not a great bass player, but you have got to focus on it as its own insturment. Look at Les Claypool!!! Does he jsut play the 4 low strings of a guitar??? i think not!!

Can we get the link for this ebay bass. If it's in good shape and truely is worth the $400 retail, then yes, it is a good deal. But something doesn't seem right about it at that price.

You shouldn't have any problem switching over to bass.

sure its a brand new guitar also its about 70 dollars total with shipping...heres the link.. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ELECTRIC-BASS-G ... dZViewItem :D

The "buy it now" price is like 48 bucks??? They have the nerve to say the retail is $399.99, yeah right. If I were you I wouldn't touch the thing with a ten foot pole.

If your really interested in trying bass, you should just get a Squier, that way you can get your feet wet at a good price and not be worried that you got screwed in the process.

I spent the last few weeks looking for a bass just to fart around on. I could not get myself to buy one off of ebay, especailly the no name stuff for dirt cheap. So I went to my local GC and got an awesome deal on a MIM that "had been dropped" in the store. So, I get home and start setting it up and checking it out, when I noticed some scuffs around the truss rod access hole. The bolt's head was broken off. I brought it back and ended up buying a new Squier Vintage Modified P Bass from Sam Ash after I had a good look over it.

Moral - Instrument buying is a hands on event! I don't think it would be nearly as simple to return a bass to an ebay seller as it is to return one in person. IN the end, I diodn't have to ship anything and wait for a refund to buy another one. The purchase, the rutn and the second purchase were made in a span of 3 hours.

Only get the bass if you want to actually play bass, and not just because there is an oppurtunity to play bass. Because if the oppurtunity is there, but the desire to play bass isn't, then I don't see it working out well for you or your friend.

"So it was like, Uh-oh, we haven't got a bass player. And everyone sort of turned 'round and looked at me. I was a bit lumbered with it, really... it was like, 'Well ... it'd better be you then.' I don't think you would have caught John doing it; he would have said: 'No, you're kidding. I've got a nice new Rickenbacker!' I was playing piano and didn't even have a guitar at the time, so I couldn't even say that I wanted to be a guitarist."

The Beatles are pretty much the exception...

Is it something where they just play occasionally? Or do they have a steady schedule? I just bring that up because while bass may seem like a fun idea for the occasional gig, if its something more serious, then you'll need to be more serious about playing bass, otherwise you'll just be holding the other band back...Just some food for thought.

its a steady schedule. we would play every wednesday at about 730 or 800
