There can be only one......1970's HH IC100. Comes as an amp, or a 2x12 Combo. As used by Wilko Johnson (ex Dr Feelgood), Buzzcocks, Floyd (Pompeii) and a host of others. I own one, and it'll blow your head off volume wise. Spring Reverb, tremelo and Sustain (fuzz) built in. 2 Channels. Really wide tonal variation. Great speakers too. Don't know how easy it is to find them stateside though. Only thing is they are getting a bit old, and may need attention, although mine (1973) looked like it'd literally been chucked off a cliff. Also hadn't been played for 10 years, but after initial low volume issues (presumably while the Capacitors came out of hibernation) it was fine. Highly recommended.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Or one of The 70's Carlsbro amps. Bloody brilliant sounding things.

They go for around £150 here.

Played one. They are very good indeed. 8)

Also really like (for some strange reason) the Crate GTX212. One amp that I thought long and hard about buying.

I know the HHs well as I am a big Daniel Ash fan, but I feel like I'd only get his sounds out of it and little else. The 2x12 is ridiculously heavy too

Played some live shows with my Bros Traynor and an SVT cabinet, in 2009. The bass players in the bands we shared the bill with at those shows all asked to use that rig, I always said yes :D

if you look for used, tech 21 is a great find. they also have a power engine. it has a power amp only, so you can plug youe effects in directly- keeps your tone great.

I don't have any direct experience with Tech 21, but their sound bites impress me.

http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/amps/ ... ark60.html

They used to make more amp configurations that you might find used.

The Roland JC-120 is a great clean amp. I always figure that if you start clean, you can get dirty, but if you start dirty (were talking tone here, folks) with your amp, it is hard to get a clean sound.

Hi SBLS,I don't know how popular Traynor Mono Blocs were Stateside during the 70s but here in NL just every bass player worth his salt had either a Mono Bloc or Traynor 200W tube bass amp with the monster 8-10" cabinet but the Mono Bloc gave you the most bragging rights.A collector buddy of mine has an original near mint Mono Bloc with the folded 15" speaker bass bin that came with it.My little collection of 28 guitars and 10 amps pales to his collection of over 75 guitars,25 amps and hundreds of effects-as of the last time I was talking to him.I guess I should try and get him to post some pix on the forum even though he isn't a member-yet.

Personal SS "practice amp" is a Line 6 Spider Jam. Lotsa presets and effects. 'Heard a coulpe guys get WAY serious sounds out of one, so there are possibilities in the box.

GS, the Traynor is still a great sounding head. Your buddy reminded me of a buddy of mine in Chicago "Rent FX". He has a ton of gear for rent his myspace page describes it in detail. Much of it vintage.
