Nice guitars but not for me. I don't like how they play and their sound just doesn't do it for me. However, that is just me, and my taste. I know that some guys like them and can make them really sing. I just couldn't bond with them.
ABS :D

That pretty much sums it up for me too. They're nice guitars, and I know some people who absolutely love theirs like I love my Strats, but they just aren't for me.

They're not really my thing, but they do seem to be well made overall, never be afraid to try a guitar out (Unless it's owned by someone who doesn't want you touching it--or it's real expensive and you don't want to put a ding in it.)

I love mine - I have a goldtop DGT model - its a sweet playing guitar, sounds great, looks cool, and has plenty of dings - guitars are made to be played, IMO - It has the coil taps, so I can get strat sounds out of it, or LP sounds - its a nice guitar - I play it alot - it outplays the majority of my Fenders, however, I am a huge Fender fan and have a slew of them - PRS are expensive, true - to each their own!

PRS just doesn't have the history yet. That's the rub. I have a single cut and it's nicer than my Fenders in many respects. But, I'm in love with my Fenders and everything that goes with the brand. It's like comparing BMW and Lexus (both excellent). An old Lexus is an old unrecognizable Japanese car, if you own an old BMW, you still have a BMW. No offense to any Lexus owners.

Not a strictly fair comparison- PRS have a LOT of desirable back-catalogue models. The 1980s Metal, the Artist models, the Dragons, the pre-lawsuit Singlecuts... there's a lot out there. Some worth more than others!

I think a more clear-cut analogy, if you're going to use cars, is that Fender are like Ford. First mass-produced products, available in a simply awesome range of colours and with pretty much any configuration you could want under the hood... as well as a large selection of body styles, suitable for almost any job.

PRS would be more like Pagani. Exclusive, fairly rare and expensive, but with a core of die-hard fans who'd be happy using nothing but. Eye-popping visuals on many. Etc. Not an ancient company, but well-respected and loved nonetheless.

PRS has a huge history. Even their lower end guitars can surpass the quality of many higher end guitar manufacturers. They sound and play great to me but the body style doesn't do it for me. I played the PRS One and thought it was an awesome sounding guitar. I tried some higher models, they were just too slick for my taste.

Paul himself is a heckuva guy...I met him early one morning at the Guitar Center in Arlington, Texas, and he handed me his personal guitar. It was one of the earliest models with the dragon inlayed up the neck. I've seen others of this particular model since then, but never with the detail.

As far as PRS guitars: they're well-made, gorgeous guitars. I like them in the hands of David Grissom...but give me a Fender or G&L any day.

What is your opinion of the narrow field pickups? Can you tell any difference with them?
I am also curious about the vox coax pickup design.

I'm sure they're fine guitars. I just don't like the birds.

Wall bounces are my favorite. I saw Slash do it once and break the neck of a Les Paul, after that the other VR guys just kinda laughed while a tech ran out and brought him another one. It was lulz.

I had a PRS for a couple of years. Custom 22, flame top (but not a 10 top) with birds. The neck was really very good. Maybe even the best neck I ever tried. I also liked the body shape and thickness and weight. For a guitar with square corners it was quite comfortable. The pots were fabulous. Best pots in the world IMO. They did exactly what I wanted and they "felt" very linear and easy to modulate. I sold it because despite all it's wonderful mechanical attributes it lacked soul. It was not nearly as expressive as any Fender and it wasn't even as expressive as a Les Paul. The tone of the guitar seemed very wide with deep lows and sparkling highs which I loved at first but grew to dislike. A change in touch, whether left hand or right, produced a minimal change in tone. Great guitar for power chords and may also be suitable for fast paced light touch soloing and tapping but it was NOT a bluesman's dream. I truly despised the rotary pickup selector. It provided some versatility but it was not at all user friendly. On the contrary it was a constant source of frustration. The selector worked well mechanically but it did not lend itself well to stage work. The best locking tuners I ever tried and I've tried them all. Simple, durable, stable, efficient. Fit and finish were exemplary. For my purposes it was the finest materials and craftsmanship imaginable on a guitar I rarely wanted to play.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

BJay1435, welcome to the Forum. I have always heard good things about PRS guitars. If you should decide to obtain one, pic's would be great.
