hi all. The thing is. Mid june 2011 I was about to buy a brand new USA Delux Stratocaster Ash from a shop when i came across a USA Delux Stratocaster QMT HSS 2009 but unused so like New for £200 less . I love both guitars but have saved to buy and want to make sure my purchase is a investment and will hold its value for years to come.
So can any one advise me on which of above models i should opt for. In terms of investment and playability. I like rock and blues. Cheers in advance

Both will hold their value about the same and neither would depreciate more than the other.I haven't had any experience with the QMT but I did have an ash Strat once upon a time and it had phenomenal sustain.I don't know if this was due to the ash or a combination of factors but in my experience I'd go for the ash.Since they'll both hold their value let your ears and hands be the judge-that's the best advice I can give you.BTW welcome to the forum, there's guys here with a wealth of knowledge about guitars and gear in general.

Hi Tom, welcome to the Forum.

Nothing to choose between them as far as playability and depreciation is concerned. So it's down to your feelings on Quilt Maple - how do you like that? Are we talking about a Tabacco-burst with two black knobs? Depending on the quilting, that can be an eye-poppingly beautiful guitar.

Though I share guitslinger's liking for ash too.

Make your choice on which one you finde the more sexy. Can't go wrong.

Cheers - C

Buy the new one, Then you get the warranty and you get to be the (FIRST) owner. and for some reason that adds some significant value in it's self. :)

He said the 2009 was unused, so does it have the same warranty?

Hi Tom. I'm pretty sure the QMT HSS Deluxe and its sister the FMT were both discontinued. Fender would still honor the warranty as long as this instrument is new old stock. The original MSRP was $2400.00 US and they had an ebony fretboard instead of rosewood. The pickups are mounted directly to the wood since there is no pickguard on this model. I think it is a very nice looking instrument and I don't envy you because you have a tough choice. Good luck, take pics, and post them so we can be envious when we see them. 8)

I would personally go with the QMT, but both are pretty great guitars you can't go wrong with either of them...

I'd go with the QMT, it's something a little different.

The QMT is a much rarer guitar. In a few years' time, not many will be around. They also play very nicely. I used to own an FMT Tele Deluxe, and it was a pretty good guitar. As mentioned, it's a very different choice.

If you do get it, prepare to be slightly underwhelmed by the stock humbucker. It's not great.
