Give it a shot...you're savvy enough to know a fake in person, and if it's real, you got a steal.

Urethane or Polyester finish there mate. Try as I may I can't get cellulose to shine like that on a photo.
White fifties strats are very rare. Black are rocking horse poo. Wouldn't a 59 be a rosewood board? Thought that was the year they completely ditched maple.

Very dubious about it, but it's worth taking a look at.

On second look, something's not right...I can't put my finger on it. The color definitely looks wrong, unless the guy played only at home and kept it cased the rest of he time...it's like my legs, "too white".

If it's not too much trouble, I'd go anyway; it might be worth the drive.

Is the Fender logo missing off the headstock? Can't see it in the photo.

Even if an Olympic White finish and a white pickguard were in complete darkness for 52 years there'd be more fading than that.Even though that's an old style screwhole spacing something just gives me a funny taste about this one.

More looking after Guitslingers very astute observation of the pickgusard screw placement.

Also the pickup placement for the neck and middle pickups looks wrong. That neck pickup looks way too far away from the neck.
The forearm wear looks like a bad diy job too.
The 12th fret dot spacing looks good.

Still I maintain it's worth a look.

Go look at the darn thing. Pick it up and hold it, plug it in and play it. If she is for real she'll let you know. Then at the least you've had a nice ride and lunch with a friend. Take your best guitar Buddy with you, and I'll bet one of you takes her home. :) :)

If you want to give it a try, go for it. I am passing. Even if some of the wood is original, the thing has been very bastardized from what I have heard.

Only interested in parts.

I don't think I'll be going. Kinda tempting, maybe if it were local I'd check it out. I've got a buddy in Regina. Too bad he knows nothing about guitars.

Yo Nevin: please take that drive. And take a camera, have the neck off and get many photos of the heel end and the pocket. So much to be learnt from that. If there's a kosher bone in the seller's body he'll be OK with that procedure.

I'd love to see what the paint looks like under the back trem cover too.

For that matter we all want to see under the pickguard, don't we?

What's the "ridiculously cheap" asking price, by the way?

Cheers - C

Well then at worst it isn't a "terrible scam", only a very small one.

If any part of that guitar actually is genuine late '50s you'd make your money back and then some. But it is certainly hard to believe in that body. Never mind the brilliant white, that's very "road worn" looking wear on the forearm contour.

I wish we could see the front of the headstock better.

Cheers - C

Looks real fishy to me Nevin. The neck and body wear look suspicious and I'm not buying the upside down serial #. Be careful. The neck wear on the front just doesn't jive with the back at all. Have him give you all the pot codes and take photos of it disassembled.
