Today while I was driving home from town Mahogany Rush doing a live version of Red House came on Deep Tracks on Sirius.I hadn't listened to that track for years even though I have it on a live album.Frank Marino is a far better guitarist than he's given credit for.He was mostly refered to as a Hendrix clone/wanna be but it goes far further than that,he's a top notch guitarist without the Hendrix connections. On Red House he plays lightning fast riffs that are definitely not Hendrix inspired but incredibly soulful and tasty,I think it's time to dig out all my Mahogany Rush albums and commit them to CD so I can listen to them more often. He does a jaw dropping job of Red House that would make anyone a fan.

+1 on that. I haven't listened to Mahogany Rush in a long time. I don't know why...
The only two albums I have are Strange Universe and Tales of the Unexpected.

Their 1st and 2nd albums Maxoom and Child of Novelty respectively as well as their lve albums are also great albums as is World Anthem. One of the songs on Maxoom is called Buddy and is dedicated to Jimi and it sounds just like something off of Rainbow Bridge or Cry of Love.

I always liked Marino ... but kinda found his music too self-indulgent for prolonged listening. Very similar to how I see Yngwie Malmsteen.

Frank Marino is one of those guys whose music I always say I should get deeper into. Hendrix clone? Not at all. Actually, I would say he's borrowed from a lot of sources (like most players) and has come up with something that he can call his own.

Frank Marino-Mahogany Rush opened for AC/DC, Foreigner and Aerosmith at an outdoor concert in Chicago at the old Comiskey Park, July 1977. I remember thinking they sounded great. He/they are one of many great bands whose only error was being popular during a time when there were so many great bands that you could lose track of a few and not notice.

Frank is a great guitarist...when he was a teenager he thought he had been possessed by the spirit of Jimi...I can't attest that he was but he sure could make that gitar do some testifying
