So how would you rank the decades based on the music they produced? Start from 1900 till now... how do you rank them from best to worst?

In My mind there were two. The first for me was the big band era and the second was the Fabulous 60's. Both were strewn with wars and wonderful music. USO shows entertained the troops over seas in both cases, and the music was alive and well.very much inspired by the death and dying going on over there. Very sad times and very wonderful as well. :( :)

Now I could be accused of heresy here. But the 90's gave us some great bands and albums, but people often overlook it and see it as a barren decade full of crap music. But here in the UK at least there was plenty going on. In fact I'm currently putting together a 90's playlist and its quite good :)

90s and 80s are tied for awesomeness, 70s were 90% terribad IMO, 2000s were just f***ing awful, with the occasional gem popping up in the underground scene later in the decade, and 2010s are just starting so I can't say, though this decade looks promising so far, rap is taking a turn for the better with the rise of Odd Future and it's members' solo releases, there's some cool lo-fi garage punk stuff coming out, etc

1960s,
1970s,
1990s,
2000s,
1950s,
1910s-just for stravinsky's rite of spring,
1980s-last purely because of Duran Duran.

I don't have a preference on any which I left out.

I think different genres were their best in different decades...so here's my opinion; just based on the music I like.

1930s - Blues blues and more Blues.
1960s - Rock and Roll was really picking up momentum and a lot of good bands.
1970s - IMO the 70s are the decade of country music; countless good country artists in the
70s
1980s - I'm not a huge fan of most 80s music, but IMO Michael Jackson made up for all the
other crap that was on the radio.
1990s - Metal and HipHop ruled the 90s. There was a lot of garbage near the end of the
decade but 90 - 96/7 brought us some good tunes.
2000s - Rap is in it's heyday and some great lyricists rise to the top.
2010s - ? Only time will tell. Right now I hate all the music that's coming out.

Please tell me you're basing the 80s rank on the mainstream music of the decade....?

The 60s and 70s for me ranked about the best, well at least mid 60s to mid 70s then disco moved in and almost killed music as we know it lol.I love 30s and 40s music like in Linda Ronstadts-'Round Midnight and Harry Nillsson's Nillsson Schmillsson and A Touch of Schmillsson in the Night.I like some of the 20s Vaudeville stuff but not gone on the other decades.

+1!

Most music subsequent to the '60s era was an endless parade of sonic hand-jobs.
