So...I ran over to Guitar Center today to pick up a few sets of strings, and lo and behold they finally had some Pawn Shop series guitars in stock. I played the Mustang Special and the '51. My opinions...The '51 was cool, and the finish was awesome, but man that thing was heavy, and I really wasn't a big fan of the neck pup at all. I think it's a good guitar but not for me.
The Mustang Special on the other hand was awesome. I really like the short scale, but I did feel a little clumsy playing it at first. I wanted to leave the store with it, but decided against it...for now.

On a side note, I am always impressed when I play any guitar through a Super Champ XD. That little amp is nice, and a great value IMO.

Thanks for posting Tim. The short scale has its advantages, I haven't owned one one but the thought is always there. I was waiting for a players viewpoint. Extra very 8)

The 51 is pretty cool assuming it plays as good as the Squier 51 from a few years back.

I've been looking for them to get some in stock and I was really impressed with the Mustang; it played and sounded awesome.

No prob SBLS. If you get a chance to try one out you should, it's a very nice axe.

The '51 played awesome, I just wasn't a huge fan of the pickups. And that bastard was HEAVY!

Still no sign of any Pawn Shops here at the local GC and the sales people just look blank when I ask if they're ever going to get some in. As a smaller GC, we tend to get stuff after all the other GCs all over the country. GC has implemented a new search-and-find program linking all their stores, but you would then be ordering sight unseen...

I like the feel of the '72 quite a bit and the Surf Green color is very cool. The '72 has a U shape neck, the '51 a C shape.

I've been interested in hearing from anyone that has played the Jim Adkins JA-90 Thinline Tele. Have you played it?

I wanted to try a '72 but all they had locally were the mustang and the '51. I'm still having to force myself to not go back and buy that Mustang.
