Did you read the owner reviews? The one about over heating would use some looking in to. Like the man said just a warning. :)

Nope. It's just a straight two-channel amp, clean and overdrive, with DSP effects. You can play clean or you can play distorted, but there's not much emulation or simulation (minimal stimulation, even) going on.

Nope. Just another cheap piece of junk. Seems along the lines of Bugera/Behringer. I think the Fender Mustangs would be a better choice.

'Modeling' means an amp has settings that mimic other amplifiers. If your looking for a low priced half stack, I'd stay away from Raven. I hate Crate, but their FlexWave series is low priced and pretty decent actually. Randall also has a nice budget half stack, and I believe Marshall does also.

Crate FlexWave...I had one for about a year, it had no problems.

Randall RX...I haven't used one but I have heard a lot of good things about them.

Marshall MG...I've never liked Marshall but that's only my opinion.

And my choice in the price range of the Raven amp you posted...

Jet City JCA20H stack...I have the combo version, and at twenty watts of tube goodness it sounds great and is more than capable of rockin' out with a band.

Check out some of the Egnater stuff. You can't go wrong with Jet City or Egnater. The 20 watters are pretty loud and sound great.

Dude...You could probably find the Jet City stack or the combo used for $250. They have pretty good overdrive, and really scream when you put an o/d pedal in front of it.

Pleading my ignorance here but would Line 6 be considered a modeling amp? I have a 75w Line 6 spider that I picked up for $175, lots of cool sounds out of it with my Strat.

Of course the way I play there's alot of uncool sounds too :D

And if it is a modelling amp, did you guys just not suggest it yet or is there some ambivalence toward them? I've been very happy with it.

Yes, it is, im happy with my Mustang, but as a practice amp, Im looking for an amp that produces a natural tone and has enough power for a gig

Hey Tim, this looks pretty nice actually: Jet City Amplification JCA20H and JCA12S Half-Stack, might try and look into either used one ofa ebay or just saving about $75 more
