Duanne created his style and Derek has refined it, I think they both deserve to be listened to equally. Because of my age I've listened to Duanne a lot more but I believe that Derek is as creative and a joy to listen to.

Duane was massively creative and blazed a path not previously taken...he changed the way slide guitar was approached. Between the work he and Ry Cooder put out in the early 1970s, there was a quantum leap in this particular art form that is just now being approached by other slide guitarists.

Derek is a scholar of different musical styles who has the ability to translate various forms of music (including Indian/Oriental/Asian) in a way that Western listeners can enjoy it...he built upon everything Duane (and Ry and...) had done, and has created a new benchmark.

So the answer to the question is "Yes."

Sounds like Buddy Guy and Hendrix, or Hendrix and SRV

Good analogy...

To My ear its Derek Trucks, but like the man said its like comparing apples and oranges. Were talking about two different Ara's. Dwane Allman developed his style many years ago and has pretty much stuck to it and he is one of the best. And so is Bonnie Rait. Derik is a generation away and has been developing his style sense he was about 14 years old and is also one of the best. I guess it all boils down to what you want to listen to. They are all very knowledgeable about there music and I LOVE SLIDE GUITAR.

I think they're both top notch slide players, but I personally like Derek's style better. He makes that SG sing like I've never heard; seriously reminds me of female vocals a lot of times.

I'd go with Duane. He was a genius on slide. No one else comes close. 8)

Man creep, you're my new best friend.... :D
I never met Duane but he is my guitar hero,I even named one of my sons after him.
He was one of the first slide players to bring it to the mainstream fanbase at the time along with Ry Cooder......early sliders like Joe Walsh and Billy Gibbons got pointers from Duane.....Walsh plays some definite Allman licks...and of course Duane drew upon some of the older guys like Elmore James.

Oh btw,for the uninformed...Duane Allman was only a month shy of his 25th birthday when he was killed in Oct. '71...the Allman Brothers Band was formed in March of '69,so he and the band were only starting to get really noticed by many and there's no telling what they could have done if he and Berry Oakley had lived.
