G'day all,

I was having a look at some of the cool hand-painted Zvex pedals, and it's becoming a bit inspiring.

As it turns out my buddys girlfriend is a really talented artist. Would it be possible to pull off the knobs of my drab-looking OCD and let her go to town on it? Would oil-based paint work on a surface such as this, and stick? What type of paint might be required for a project such as this?

I know, I know - warranty and resale value. Well quite frankly, this is a pedal that isn't going anwhere. And if it have to look at it every day, it might as well be more than 3 goofy elephant-sized letters over a white box.

Let me know what you all think. Thank you!

i wouldnt deface a pedal that expensive.
find a junker just incase, or buy a case and swap the ocd into it and let her paint the new one.

Just buy a blank case, trace the hole locations, drill it and paint it however you want.

Think they look pretty cool the way they are. If you paint them when they get scuffed up they'll look like someones junk. If you leave them be, when they get older they will look "Rode Worn".

Hey 63supro, you're saying it would be possible to transfer the contents of the pedal into a new case, with holes drilled to precise dimensions?

:!:

Ha! Will do!

By the way, do you suppose one of the generic enclosures from BYOC would suffice?

i know 63supro get his goodies from there too. he swears by building his own.

The only thing is you have to be pretty accurate. Use a drill press if you have access to one. I'm not sure about the OCD but many pedals have the pots mounted to the PCB. Measure the enclosure and get one the same size. Here's another source for parts too.

Good stuff, Screamin'! It's actually kind of nice how it's possible to take part in guitar-based activities, without even actually playing! Guitar really is an amazing hobby.
