Played a nice MIM Stratocaster today. Hmmmm....it might be time to start researching a new additionn to the herd. I own a Tele and an G & L ASAT.....

Any thoughts on Rosewood versus maple fret-boards?

Before anyone comments on the difference in sound between them, I just prefer the look and feel of rosewood... :)

Also, is there a pic somewhere here of your G&L? Pretty please?

I like maple fretboards. I've never noticed any tonal differences, I just like the look and feel of a maple board.

The difference in rosewood vs. maple is purely aesthetic and a slight preference of feel. The tonal debate is just an urban legend/old wives tale etc. that has been perpetuated by people who think they can hear a difference yet I challenge anyone who makes this claim to do a blindfold test and I need go no further than my rosewood MIM '00 Strat that sounds much brighter than my maple Jimmie Vaughn or '04 50th Ann.

An old urban legend/old wives tale (thanks guitslinger) has it that rosewood accents the low end for a slightly warmer sound. To be sure you would need identical Stratocasters one with a maple neck and one with a rosewood neck, played through a clean channel. On looks, again, a tough decision. As fenderstrat1963 and TimDrakeMusic said "the look and feel", you are just going to have to play them and find the one that feels good when you are playing Beaubs. 8)

go back to the store grab the guitar and close your eyes....do you like the sound of it....do you like the feel of it.....if yes to both questions I'd consider buying it.

I'm with others, never heard a difference in tone, but I had a bass with the maple and I really liked the look/feel of it over rosewood.

Both of my Musicmasters have rosewood.
