Some are good, some are great, some suck...just like nowadays!

 Sacrilege!

Tone is everything! If a guy has good tone, I don't care how technically poor of a player he is...

I meant tonality as in the key of a piece, and it is was a joke anyway.

I don't think anything about music is over rated, Music is meant to entertain and stir your emotions and it dose exactly that. some times it makes you happy sometimes sad and sometimes it Pi@3$# you off. what more could we ask? keep it coming and I mean all kinds. :) 8) :x
----Danny,

really like this point

Well,I'm not going to listen to anybody who can't carry a tune in a bucket,or makes a guitar sound like somebody is killing a cat....that stirs my emotions and not in a good way.
Music should be something that is enjoyable to the listener....so I disagree.
So in other words...I do ask for more good music.

When I use the word MUSIC I mean good music. What you describe is not music. :)

would tom morello count as good music considering he intentionally tries to take weird sounds out of guitars?

Isn't that kinda what Mr. Hendrix did? He damn near revolutionised the craft/art. :)

OH GEEZ-- first of all you are asking a bunch of guitarists and bassists what's over rated in music. OMG that in it self is like opening a five gallon can of worms!!! You've asked some of the most opinionated people on the planet. No one would ever name themselves over rated that's for sure!!!!!!!!

One thing though this thread can have the half life of uranium on its' own! So... good job for a topic!!! Well done! :D

I hate electronic, fast, dance/trance music. I really can't stand it. I really don't like death metal, and I'm not a huge fan of metal. Most other stuff I can bear some of. I don't like "manufactured" artists/bands much.

But most of all, I HATE Justin Bieber!! Man, if I saw that kid in the street I would probably punch him. (I say kid but he's only like a year or two younger than me). It's not because he's young, its not because he's "successful" at such a young age, it's not even his hair. It's because he's so damn cocky. He thinks he's the best thing ever. I mean when he said he felt like the Kurt Cobain of his generation, I literally almost killed myself. I'm not a huge Nirvana fan, but damn they are light-years ahead of Bieber as far as talent and musical taste goes. Plus his fans annoy me. I have seen some of them unable to speak, trembling and crying just when they see him. How can anyone feel like that about even the most talented guys. Its really pathetic.

Morello doesn't even scratch the surface of what you can make a guitar do

i know it was mentioned before but American Idol. To me that represents all that is wrong with current music. I hate it, but it is so popular.

i know he was just an example but i love his aproach cause he's not like matt bellamy who needs those weird pads and fuzz factories mounted on his guitars and tons of hardware backstage his sound is so artificial... tom at least uses the guitars natural sounds the only thing he uses is a killswitch basically which i don't really consider a mounted effect... i think it's just part of the guitars electronics considering it's an on/off switch for the pickups

Pop singers who think that they're doing rock like Lady Gag and Justa Beaver are way over rated. The whole genre of pop music is way over rated because it's filled with old wishy washy cliches about I love you baby -you broke my heart type songs that are vacuous and insipid and devoid of any redemable musical content they are churned out just as fast and just as tasteless as fast food burgers and fries.
