I´m considering getting the computer program guitar pro 6, before putting down 50 bucks for it I though I would ask you guys if you have it what do you think of it? If you don´t have it do you have friends that have it and what are their opinions? I appreciate any info.

Before I can really answer that, what do you plan on using it for?

I will use it for learning songs from tabs I get online, for writing my own stuff, tabbing songs I don´t find online and playing along with the program. I may do other things but I don´t know the full capabilities of the program so I can´t say exactly. I have used the trial version and was satisfied but sometimes full versions have some problems.

If you are just using it for guitar, the it's an excellent tabbing tool. I've run into problem trying to transcode from one instrument to the other a lot. Also, sometimes it likes to randomly decide that certain chords are slash chords which can be annoying as $@!&.

Hmm, well I guess nothings perfect. How about crashes, does the program crash often?

It is a great program for tabbing and study. You have a quick access to tons of chords and scales plus you can tab out ideas. There is an option to address slash chords. Also, you can save chords any way you want and have a custom chord list. It is stable in vista and win7. I like it.

Edit: I forgot to add that you can export to GM midi and use it with any DAW. That includes any track from any tab, so you could write your own bass line or replace the guitar solo in your favorite song. That is very cool.

I own Guitar Pro 6 and have had no problems on it.

You might want to check out "Power Tab" and "TuxGuitar" both are similar programs and FREE. Neither one is as good as GP6, but why spend the money if you don't have too.
