So...Heading out on the boat to go shark fishing in the Bay tomorrow morning bright and early, actually probably dark and early... We got a bag of squid sliced and ready to go, some nice and large, fresh sardines...and of course local sharks favorite morsel, salmon heads. Picked up some stainless cable and some 7/0 - 10/0 hooks and made up some nice leaders. It's gonna be a great day, and we're hoping to have some smoked shark tomorrow night...I'll post pics if there's anything worth showing.

I've caught sand sharks a few times. They are the rats that prowl around
the ocean's floor and good for nothing.

Baha!

Good luck. Let us know if you catch Jaws.

Then prepare for a righteous infliction of retribution, manifested by an appropriate agent.

(In this case, Jaws' mum.)

Just don't let Fish & Game catch you with a cooler full of dorsal fins!

There's a land shark circling on my front porch. He says he has a candygram, but I'm not sure I trust him...but candy sounds so good right now...

So...no sharks today. No keeper fish today as a matter of fact, but we couldn't have chose a better day to hit the Bay...mid 70's weather was great but it sucked coming back to the mid 90's out here in the east bay.

Yeah, we weren't planning on anything huge and figured the 10/0 would be sufficient. We were mainly hoping to hit on a good 40" + leopard shark, so that tackle would have been perfect. My main rod/reel setup in the bay is a custom rod a friend of my stepdad's made (he has two of the rods, and after using them I couldn't pass up placing an order for one of my own) with a Shimano TR100G reel. My backup bay setup is a Shimano TDR Trolling rod with a Daiwa SL505H reel. All strung with 30# Trilene, and stainless leaders.

----Danny,

I've never cooked shark but I think the last time we had some at my parents house I think it only had salt/pepper and fresh lemon juice on it; and it was delicious. I never eat, or even keep sand sharks, but they do provide for a good bit of activity if the fishing is slow.

Like I replied to WayCool...we were hoping for a good leopard shark which are all over the bay, but pretty elusive sometimes. I'm no shark afficionado, as this was my first trip targeting sharks; we usually head out to the bay for halibut or striper.

Yeah Mike, sand sharks are a dime a dozen out here, and sometimes get annoying, but they can be fun to catch if you have enough bait to waste a little.

Our fishing spot was awesome today, we anchored right in the shadow of Alcatraz for the first 4-5 hours. Sorry for the poor quality cell phone pic but I thought this was a cool photo.

oh man what a photo op place. those waters are said to be shark rich too.
i like your choice in tackle. mine is a lil different though.
hey at least you got out there. just going is 1/2 the fun.
PM me for a killer shark recipe. shark can be really good eating as long as you catch and
clean the smaller sizes. i think that holds true in any fish/fur tablefare.
