Hendrix. I know he is supposed to be a stellar artist and all BUT for me, it is just a bunch of noise. I have tried to listen to him but it just doesn't click for me....

I just don't get it. I listen to his tunes, I watch him on youtube.com and I see that he's playing absolutely fantastic but ... it leaves me absolutely without reaction. Zero, nada, blank.

Cheers

David

+1. I've actually never made it through an entire Jeff Beck song. I feel like I'm somehow wasting my life and turn it off.

+2

I liked Beck's work with the Yardbirds. And of course, Beck Bogart & Appice ably filled a big void in the power trio genre after Cream split up and Jimi checked out. His subsequent solo work does nothing for me though.

I don't really much care for Aerosmith or Journey either.

The Clash, though I haven't sat down and gone through an album in it's entirety, so I can't say for sure here.

I forgot to mention AC DC,Metallica, and almost all metal bands especially the thrash/shredders like Malmsteen and others of his ilk although I find a lot of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani stuff really great.I guess I'm just a classic rock/blues/alternative/ classical music freak.

I can't get into the Ramones, i love a lot of punk and most every group i enjoy sites the Ramones as an influence. I listen to them and just kinda go eh. i don't hate them but i just can't seem to get into them.

have you tried there first album and too tough to die?? i didn't particually like em at first but hey really grew on me.

The Ramones entire catalog is flawless. I could start from the first album and go straight through to We're Outta Here! and love every second.

well said man, pretty much every album except for end of the century. i brought the first album bout a year ago, didn't like it at first (like i said above) but now there probably one of my favourite bands.

With the exception of some songs from Sticky Fingers and Goatshead Soup I haven't liked anything the Stones released since Brian died.@ Truebluefliplover if you say that all Hendrix is is noise you obviously haven't heard Angel,Little Wing,May This Be Love, One Rainy Wish,Drifting,Castles Made of Sand etc.Although you may pass off his music as noise he was capable of writing some very melodic ballad type songs as evidenced by those listed.

Granted a lot of people equate Jimi with noise, he was a master of controlling feedback and making his guitar sound like anything from a dive bomber to air raid sirens. To pull off these feats takes an awful lot of skill and a mastery of the instrument that few possess.

As a guitarist my top hates that I shouldn't are
Floyd
Zep.
And all the others in those monotonous, nonsensical, bloated, un-engaging bands.
-The embodiment of everything I hate about guitar music.
Can play but couldn't pen a melody if their lives depended on it. Too few moments of brilliance interspersed between far too many moments of sheer mediocrity.
How many albums? All I can find are about three tracks from each that are worth a listen.

SRV
I don't hear the great playing or tone everyone raves on about.

As a listener

Anything claiming to be punk post 1984. (All corporate crap for MTV.)
Nu Metal (wtf is heavy about downtuning. A real band can play heavy in A440.)
Nirvana utter tripe. MTV's boyband for the nineties. Far surpassed by their peers.
Modern blues. Get a idea of your own eh. I thought ZZ Top to be outside this and prove my notion wrong. Sadly not the case, despite my love of all ZZ up to Deguello.
Ozzy, modern Ozzy. The wildman of rock gets tamed and put in his place by the wife he married to get a good manager for Sabbath. Bleh.

Quitslinger:

Knowing his reputation, I have bought CDs and DVDs on Hendrix and tried to see what all the fuss is about. I just don't like his playing. Maybe I am just too weird. Who knows. I guess music tastes just differ. On the same note, I am a Beatles fanatic and my wife cannot stand them no matter how much I try and get her to listen to them.

My missus can tolerate a fair bit of Beatles and Hendrix thankfully but after a couple of hours she becomes antsy especially on Sunday mornings when the 3 hour Breakfast With The Beatles comes on Sirius.Sadly she absolutely has zero tolerance for classical music which I absolutely love.

I think Bach was the Hendrix of his time.
