And it was awesome.

In his first set I played "A Day in the Life" but it was a little choppy because I haven't played that one in a while. Second song was "Blackbird." That song was smoother than the other but I was going too fast and it was hard to slow down.
After that he played with another one of his older friends which was pretty cool then he was solo for a while. A guy and his girlfriend i assume walked in a little later and apparently the girlfriend used to take lessons with my instructor but she didn't want to play. He asked her boyfriend if he played and of course he did. So my instructor was like come on up we can play something. The guy responds with "Sorry I'm a lefty."
Well as it turns out the guy that had played before was a lefty so of course the boyfriend says sure I'll play. They play "Crossroads" by Eric Clapton I believe and the dude had chops. Then they played some more stuff that I didn't recognize. After that my guy took a break.
So my guy comes back on and invites me up again for a few more songs. We play "Day Tripper" and that was bunch of fun. Pretty flawless on that one. Then my grandma requests us to play "Let It Be". We had never even talked about learning it before but I knew it anyway, so we played it. I was pretty proud of that because I pretty much picked it up myself, and it was perfect. Then to finish it off we played "Get Back!!" That was a lot of fun. My instructor even let me play the lead on it and I nailed it!! I'm sooo excited now!! I wonder how long it will be before my performance high wear off....
I'll look at the recording my mom made and see if it's good enough for YouTube and if it is I'll post a link.

back around '65 my teacher invited me out to play. here i am at age 11, playing with a jazz group. i had just started to learn some jazz stuff, and i was able to put it into practice.
one of the best learning experiences for me, and for you too i hope.

congrats!
