Caught Jimmie's "...and Friends - Texas Blues Summit" at the theatre at Jazz at Lincoln Center last night. Great show, beautiful venue (although a bit on the upscale side; lots of sitting down and polite clapping for music that called for dancing and shouting) and cool guests - Lou Ann Barton, WC Clark, and the one and only Billy F. Gibbons. Most of the material was from Jimmie's recent CD and from a new one of similar material that he says will be out in a few weeks (if you loved Blues, Ballads and Favorites, expect more of the same, and I mean that in the most complimentary way), plus some material made famous or written by Texas blues artists like Gatemouth and SRV (Jimmie and Billy did a great "Thunderbird"). Jimmie (naturally) played his white strat, and Billy was rockin' a red Telecaster; as if to prove that it is all in the fingers, Billy Gibbons playing a Tele sounds like...Billy Gibbons. I know that people either love or, uh, don't love Jimmie's playing, but for me, man, his playing is just a thing of beauty. Pure, soulful, clean, and elegant. And the guy looks like he's having a ball.
There was a "tonight's show is being recorded" sign, so hopefully this baby will come out on CD (I didn't see cameras, so I'm guessing it was just audio). It would definitely be a keeper.

Very cool! :D I'm going to see him later this summer in Austin, should be great. And I hadn't heard about a new album yet, can't wait.

Bummer!! Wonder how I came to miss the promo around these parts.
FYI...there's a damn good Pink Floyd Tribute Band performing 'The Wall' out at Five Towns College in Dix Hills on Friday evening the 24th if you have a mind to travel out east. I'll be there with one of my old bandmates. My third season seeing these guys. Worth the trip.

ZZDoc - thanks for letting me know about the Pink Floyd Tribute. Don't think I will be able to make it though (between family/work my free time is limited), but maybe we can hook up another time.
By the way, the only reason I knew about the Jimmie Vaughan show is because I had been listening to him quite a bit, and I checked his website just out of curiousity and saw the NYC show. Makes you wonder why these shows get so little promotion, though. If you blink, you miss 'em, which really doesn't serve the artist well at all.

[/quote].....not to mention the fact that most of these are offered mid-week which is a total impossibility for me. Friday's a rare event, which I how a managed to catch Joe Bonamassa at Westbury last March.
