Just wondering... The two years I been on this forum I never seen anyone mention them...

Anyone have one? Played one? Especially the new models? I think they are pretty cool, and I might save up for one by the end of the year... Opinions?

I'm allergic to Floyd Roses unfortunately. Apart from that, I like 'em.

It's annoying... I never play anything in drop D, but as soon as I get hold of an FR-equipped guitar, I end up wanting to play loads of drop D stuff. Stoopid.

Probably never saw anyone mention them because if you want a Strat...get the real thing, not a sorta copy.

I lived through the whole supposed "Super Strat" era and amazingly the real deal won out and came back with a vengance...just goes to show Leo knew what he was doing and got it right the first time around!

I have a superb one (Japanese CX291) that is currently residing with the old friend responsible for getting me back playing.

Much faster, slimmer neck. Lower action too. Wired to blend between the neck and bridge pickups. So you can balance which you want more or less of between all three. I gigged it for ages. Ultimately it was too heavy, around 17lb.

I had to loan/give him the best.

Very cool Niki 8) I've played around with Floyd Rose's, and I don't really find anything against them (other than changing strings might be a bit different). I would probably prefer a hardtail model (which they do have sometimes with the wildcard models)

I think its one of those "Strat: Reinvented" ideas. Leo Fender perfected the guitar, but the charvel "super strats" were just for those who wanted something different... after all, Charvel started as a company that took Fender Strats and modified them.

I feel like what charvel is pumping out now still embodies that fender legacy...

I work on them quite a bit. Granted, they are decently made but I find no, "big wow" with any of them. To me, they are simply another mutant form of a Strat for the, "Hair Band Guitarist".

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Considering they're part of Fender now, that's good

I dunno, I love the looks of them but they don't suit me as a player.

lol you must not pay attention to my posts. ive stated over and over that the charvel
and jackson guitars of the 80's are some of the best guitars EVER built. :D
the current charvel's are bad either.

Way Cool Jr: Do you know what's different about the Pro-mod series from the production models? They run about $100-200 cheaper than the production models...

haha and I do pay attention to your posts. After all, I consider you one of the "go-to" guys on the forum. 8)

ok im back. whew!
ok i went to see what i could find out by playing these EXCEPTIONAL guitars right off the rack. man these things are sweet. everybody deserves to treat themselves to a test drive of these guitars. ok here we go, the answer to your question.

the production models are MIA, and the promod is MIJ.
the MIA comes with a soft shell while the MIJ comes with a case, and its cheaper to buy.
(go figure) the japan version is 1/4 saw neck while the american wasnt.
the MIJ also has a slight satain finish that can be sanded completely off with little effert between you and a piece of sandpaper. the fretwork was above and beyond on the MIJ next to the MIA, there just seemed to be a better job done on the MIJ.
over all, the MIJ gets my vote for the best of the two, and its cheaper, and comes with HSC. however, the poop on the street says the MIA is soon to be phased out of production
to the way better selling and playing MIJ.
ok smokey, does that answer your question?

oh, then then there are still differences between the So.Cal and the SanDimas guitars too.
the pups and pickguard/non-pickguard being some of the differences.
i love these guitars. get you one. :D

Took one for the team did ya Rick? I'd hate to see you strain you fretting hand playing too many guitars! :P  I don't think I've ever played a Charvel before, but your description alone makes me want to try out one of the Japanese models, at least that way I can give a second opinion...lol...
