It's actually a Hondo copy of the ol' Danelectro Guitarlin. Has a replacement pickup (not sure what model) that screams.

Original Dano's have "lipstick tube" pickups. Masonite construction aluminum nuts. Cool sounding and really inexpensive guitars. I have an original 1957 U1 and it's a nice sounding guitar. The Longhorns were really cool. 8)

Jerry Jones has been making them for a long time. Real pricy though.

A friend of mine found the 57 in a trash can in Philadelphia and gave it to me. The only thing cooler is my 63 Supro Martinique.

I played slide for one evening on one of those Hondo Longhorn copies...the 31 frets thing was really cool, sliding all the way up there and having a marker to keep intonation (vaguely) intact...there were songs that I sounded like a seagull.

Wish I could have talked the guy into selling it to me.

For what they were, the Hondos were not terrible guitars. No, they weren't a vintage Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, etc., but they were as good as many the "second tier" guitars that many of us crave and collect (Danelectro, Silvertone, Airline, etc.).

...plus, the company was based in Fort Worth, Texas! (No, they weren't made there, as far as I know).

Ive had an 1959 DC Reissue for about 3 yrs now. The sound great, are very light and are nice to play very comfortable neck.
