Is it hard?

yes & No.

If you go into it underestimating it, it will make it more difficult.

But yeah--it's easy to do simple stuff, hard to do more complex stuff.

but maybe you'll find you have a greater aptitude for the bass, or no aptitude at all.

Bass guitar can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. It is true, the larger scale makes your fingers stretch a little more, but you get used to it.

Easy: Any country tune on the radio. Simple 4/4 tempo in "A". You just pluck the bass with a "bomp, bomp, bomp, bomp" type of rhythm... "A", "E", "A", "E", etc... and around the 8th beat you could throw in an 8th note turnaround "E", "F#", "G#", "A".

Hard: Trying to play like Geddy Lee of Rush in the song "YYZ".
Hard: Trying to play like Jack Bruce (back in the Cream days) in the song "Crossroads".

Andres Segovia once said:"Guitar is the easiest instrument in the world to play and the hardest to play well."I guess you can say the same for bass.
