Been wanting one foe years and they seem to get scooped up as so as they are advertised used so perhaps if everyone hopped on board here we could get Fender to reissue it (not as an expensive custom shop deal but as a regular addition to the line). thanx

As much as I love to look at the Custom Shop Calendar and I admire the beauty of those creations, I can't afford one...and I don't see a time in the near future when I could justify the expenditure (even if I could afford it).

I have wanted a Fender XII and a Fender Bass VI for as long as I could remember. A good Mexican-made version of those axes at an affordable price would be great. If they are as accurate as the 50s and 60s Strat being made in Ensenada, that would be great...and any purists that don't like the minor differences will have something new to gripe about here on the forum! :P

Even if they made an updated or modified version (removing the "extra" stuff like the Sonic Youth guitars), I would be happy.

With all the mundane variety Fender offers, you think they would put out something unique like this.

How many single coil variation Stratocasters do we need?

I don't mind the dozens of variations available, but make an affordable hardtail Strat!

We're not asking for something outlandish or ridiculous.

I don't think that petition would work but I can fully understand your wanting the XII reissued.I like to see that reissued along with the Coronado and Starcaster.Fender maybe could build some MIM or MIC or MIK versions at a lower price and if they did I'd have my orders in pronto.I don't know how well the Strat XII sold when it was in production,I didn't get one because at the time there was other gear I was intent on getting and by the time I could afford one they had gone out of production. There's something about the single coil quack that sounds great on a XII string such as on my old Vox Phantom XII and I'd love to see Fender put out another if for no other reason but to save wear and tear on the old Vox.

I'm looking for both a 12-string and a baritone. A Fender XII would be great. Affordable would be great, too.

Yeah I love those old Vox Phantoms too.  And I agree as far as the XII goes I wouldn't mind if it was a MIM or MIK or a MIC make. I would just love to have one, really liked the sound of them ever since I saw Johnny Winter playing one back in '69 or '70.

A re-issue Fender XII might appeal to some 250 or 300 buyers worldwide. I can guarantee that those sales number will ensure that this guitar is never re-issued. Fender would have to re-tool to wind the split-pickup array, re-source a supplier for the peculiar pickup switch, modify a Jazzmaster body to accommodate the vintage 12-string bridge, and re-create the very labor-intensive hockey-stick headstock. And most Fender XII's were built with the CBS-era necks that featured MOP blocks and white binding. All this to sell perhaps 300 guitars???

I think not.

Especially since the Strat 12-string provided such dismal sales figures during the era(s) that Fender-Japan offered them.

A standard 6-string hardtail Strat based on the MIM 50s/60s platform might be a viable (and do-able) variation.

JMO (based upon my understanding of business models and profit potential)

+1, there simply isn't a market for it.

Both of those listings are for the contemporary Stratocaster 12-string. This is what the OP was referring to......

I have to agree that appeal would be limited.
However Charvel (which FMIC owns) could easily reissue this

There seems to be plenty of desire for them.

All great guitars, the discussion made me smile because it reminded me of a situation about 20 years ago. I was looking for a guitar that I played and grew to love about 20 years prior and was having a difficult time finding one in good condition for less then tens of thousands in American dollars. A bit frustrated I called the manufacturers customer service department. After telling the customer service representative my situation they politely let me know that I could have the model that I was looking for built for about three thousand American dollars. I was excited. First because I could get what I wanted and,, second that the cost was significantly less than I ever hoped for. I'm fairly certain that Fender would build a guitar that has been out of production for a very long time, for me and, it will cost less than an original in like new condition. I can't complain about that.

Someone posted a thread a few months ago about a company in the US that will take your Tele or Strat hardtail and convert it to a 12 string.

No -- that pic is from a recent Ebay listing (shamelessly purloined and posted under the "fair use" rule of copyright law).

I have an '05 MIJ Stratocaster 12-string, also in Lake Placid Blue.
