Well, there goes my partscaster thread. It was a humdinger, too. Fender, to me, never seems to get the neck right. Frets, profile. Great EC v neck, vintage frets, for example. Then they won't let you order a neck from them. So to me, you have to build your own. I didn't want to do it, I swear. 8)

Don't feel too "guilty", GTG.

Even when we're building parts-o-casters or clones, the odds are we're buying new hardware, pickups, pickguards, etc, from FMIC so they still extract their "pound of flesh" from us.

And by any stretch, the moderators here give us quite a bit of leeway to discuss, post pics of said "heresy", and champion our various causes.

Rawk on!

These sorts of threads always amuse me as folks tend to conjure up images of executives sitting in a board room contemplating such topics. At the risk of sounding arrogant, these forums exist because I wanted them to exist. It's literally that simple. ;-) The original motivating spirit here is truthfully rooted in the fact that I'm a big fan of Leo Fender and I think Leo would have liked to have seen a large community of diehard fans enthusing about his legacy.

Are you going to see us having a problem about folks posting their DIY projects here? No. If there's obvious counterfeiting or "faking" involved that's quite another story, but ... we are enthusiasts too and we understand the inner urge to create -- both musically and instrument-wise.

Love this answer. If this wasn't the case we would have missed out on Ceri's masterful thread of his resurrection of Niki's burnt guitar. 8)

"Would Leo approve?" If the answer is "yes," then that's a good sign that you won't see an objection from me here. As long as it's folks enthusing about guitars and being respectful of each other in the process it's all good ...

Thanks Brad!
In a couple of threads recently I've told members to ask you about what should be done since a lot of time is spent on validating one position or another. Sometimes getting heated.
Thanks for clearing things up, again!

I think many of us are big fans of Leo also and agree with you, Brad. :D

I have one question here. There is a guy who sells "Fender decals" on ebay. Hundreds I suppose. What do you think of that? Is there really a need to replace so many original decals?

Well. That's my reason for buying only new guitars from Fender dealers.

Cheers

David

While in some cases this is legitimate activity many, many times it's obviously not; it doesn't take a rocket scientist to conclude what one might do with genuine-appearing Fender decals.

well brad has spoken guys... what do you guys say?... do we go for it? i understand if most of you don't agree... i was expecting some of you would feel conflicted or disagree in some way... i just found it to be a good way to promote guitar innovation, creativity, in some way show the needs of todays guitarrist, and have our chance to show in our own point of view through what we build what we like in a guitar...

WWLA = What Would Leo Approve

Well there it is, something we should all think about when posting. I think I'll add it to my signature line :)

You are the best, Brad. But you can't blame us villagers for being nervous, superstitious, and paranoid. After all, you are "The Man." :)
