These pedals are pretty decent too. (I currently have them all)

BBE Crusher
Barber LTD Silver
DigiTech Screamin' Blues
DigiTech Bad Monkey

There are tons of FX pedals out there. Try going to a local music store and try some out.

What type of music? Heavy, mid, or light distortion? Or overdrive? There are alot of options for you, all depending upon what sonic picture you wish to paint. To my ears, nothing beats Tube saturation!

I use a Marshall Jackhammer, you can switch between overdrive and distortion. It sounds pretty good. Lots of knobs on it too.

No doubt.

If you can afford it,
get a Fulltone OCD.

I can recommend the Electro Harmonix/Sovtek Big Muff, ProCo Rat, BYOC Large beaver ('71 Big Muff clone) and some of the Screddy pedals for distortion. For overdrive the Ibanez Tube Screamer(preferably TS808), BK Butler Tube Driver, Boss BD2 (maybe from Keeley).

If you want to go really crazy you could get some Pete Cornish pedals 8)

The music you play describes Overdrive to me, not distortion. Check out the Barber LTD (either silver or black), Digitech Bad Monkey, or the Fulltone OCD. If I were you I would look to get a 15 watt tube amp first. Pro Jr. or BLues Jr. THen you can get natural tube saturated overdrive/distortion. Then pedals as needed. The POD products are either love or hate. I happen to dig em for recording. If you are playing out then you want to go direct to board instead of feeding a guitar amp. Just my opinion. Check out my take on Smoke on the Water. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91wKceCSc8s It was done with the POD XT and my strat direct to board.
