In my old age I have learned to differentiate "want" from "need"...I used to ache over some piece of gear, to the point of discomfort.

I don't need anything else, and I am happy with what I have.

I would like to own a metal-bodied resonator and a G&L Nighthawk--but if I never get them, the ache isn't so severe that I can't handle it.

There's a couple of pedals and microphones I would like to check out, too...but not to the point where my psyche hurts.

So the answer to your question--GAS can become bearable, but it never really completely goes away...

I'm satified with what I have. It's not my aim nor can I afford to bury myself in guitars and amps. But thats probrably what Mick meant when he and the Stones belted out " I can't get no satisfaction". ...I can.

I don't need anything either, but it doesn't mean I don't want stuff.

But yeah, there is a difference.

i agree with armadillo. i have what i need. everything else i just "want". it's funny. my wife has never complained about a music related purchase or any other for that matter. seperate bank accounts are extremely cool. we pay the bills and spend our cash on whatever the hell we want.
i'd love a custom guitar and a high end amp. but, i'd still be the guy wearing out the same old licks. for me, anything new means giving up something i already have. i'm diggin' my stuff for the moment.
what did you get waycool?

Are you kidding me? NEVER...but every now and then I start to think, do I need all the guitars I have, and then BAM, I find something else I can't live without...oh sorry you got me gassing talking about gassing...I know look up redundant in the dictionary and it says see redundant...unless someone wants to send me some of the following I will be gassing!

57 Strat Sunburst
57 Tweed Deluxe
64 Gibson ES345 in Sunburst
64 Tremolux (just the head if you can't part with the matching cab!)
58 Strat, three color sunburst
57 Esquire, two tone Sunburst...got to have a match for the strat!

If I had all this plus what I already have my gas would be over...for a long time...maybe...ok...not even then...yeah you got me!

Nope. It will never end...

Just this afternoon I was in Guitar Center in Oklahoma City. I had no intention of buying anything. Just gonna look around I told myself.

Sitting on the used rack was a MIA Nashville Tele. I yanked her off the wall. She's the real dark blue that Fender used in the early '90s on some of their Teles. I checked her out, put her through the paces, shook my head at myself in disgust, trying to think of all the reasons I didn't need another Tele. Geez - but you know, she IS in pretty nice shape... Sounds pretty nice through the used Super Sonic I hooked her up to... Put her back, walked around the store for awhile until I realized I DID need another Tele. Heck, I don't have an early '90's American Nashville in the herd, and my collection would never be complete without one.

Pulled the hidden $100 bill out of my wallet and told the sales guy to stick her on lay-away until I can get back to the city to pick her up.

Nope. It will never end...

there is a cure for that, own so many amps and guitars and other crap , that when a new stuff pops up she doesnt recognize it.
after 3 yrs, mine has yet to see everything. i dont/cant keep everything in one location.
i look at it as a prenup.

I only have to be careful hanging a guitar on the wall if it's strikingly different from anything the wife has seen before...

But it's a "disease" I can live with.

Arjay

I was checking out a Princeton Reverbial online the other day, and found a real good set of reviews on the blackfaces. Of course they had tone to the bone. I see why you and supro can't be satisfied with anything else. Although... If you ain't got the cash, "boxy"
ain't all that bad.

No such thing as no more GAS... As many others have posted I find my GAS has been tempered by more pressing needs, but I find myself window shopping daily. I have acquired more than I need in the guitar and amp dept., but still battle the daily desire for something new and different. they don't make me a better player  but they look good on the wall. :D
