I was just setting back playing with my 'beater' Strat and one of the '59 Bassman presets on my Mustang I amp, when my muse visited me with a riff I thought would be great for a track.

I powered up my BOSS BR-800 recorder, connected the Mustang, created a drum arrangement, and recorded the basic riff track. Than I plugged in my Squier P-Bass into the BR-800 and recorded a bass track, after that, I used the rotary guitar effect (slightly tweaked) in the BR-800 for a rhythm guitar track.

Than I decided, what the heck, lets upload it and hear some you players out there with it as a backing track, so, here it is 'Far East' http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10743396. I've already recorded a lead track, I'll upload later, don't wanna influence any players

Guys, thanks for your kind words!

I'm still in the process of moving, and once I bring my computer, I'll add horns, and sweeten the drum track.

I must have about 200 plug-ins, and I have a great horn plug-in I can use with my Axiom 25 http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Axiom25.html and Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/.

I also have DrumCore http://www.sonomawireworks.com/drumcore/ on my PC. With DrumCore, you sample each loop, and just 'drag 'n drop' the loop right into Reaper.

I still just may insert drum 'fills' using the BR-800, I only spent about 30mins on the track.

Tony, I see you mention Reaper. I just about to buy Mixcraft 5. Why did you choose Reaper? I like you're backing track. If I get set up soon I'll give a shot at recording a lead over it. It would be nice if a few guys would do that so we could see a few different flavors of the same track. I'm assuming that's why you posted it.

One thing, it's not a memory hog! I got a copy of SONAR LE when I got a Cakewalk UA-4FX external USB audio capture device. I've had a BR-8 & BR-1600 and I wanted to learn DAW/PC recording. But my vintage single core 3300+ AMD PC crashed if I had more than 3 tracks running with plug-ins with SONAR, not the case with Reaper.

I've had ten tracks running with plug-ins, and no latency.

Reaper comes with plug-ins, and the software automatically scanned and found the SONAR/Cakewalk plug-ins. Plus the designers offer free upgrades (within two versions), and make improvements, when needed, all for $60. I highly recommend Reaper.

Well, I'm new to soundclick. I was assuming I could download your backing track. Am I missing something or is it not downloadable?

There should be a 'download' button, I know that Soundclick has tweaked their site interface somewhat. Try this, click on the song title, and select 'Full' (full info) and see if the download button shows. If not, I'll have to check into it later today.

Here's another one 'Black Ice' http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7254585.

I listen to NPR and during one of the breaks they played a very short 8 measure track, but didn't say who was band. I keep a digital voice recorder in the car and hummed what I heard.

Later, I came home and recorded this track. If anyone recognize it please let me.

Nice Tony! I've been using your backing track to experiment with, while I get my own setup working. I bought Mixcraft 5 and a PreSonus Firestudio Mobile. I've been learning how to use both and trying to get some clean tracks. I'm struggling with gapping and latency. But the stars lined up tonight and I finally got a clean intro recorded. At this rate I might have a full track in a month or so. :D
Hopefully this will get easier after I work out the bugs. Thanks for the backing track to play with.

I really didn't care for Mixcraft, for the same cost you could have brought Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/. You can download a full working demo of Reaper to try out. I don't have any problem with lagging recording with Reaper.

I use a Edirol (now Cakewalk) UA-4FX: USB Audio/MIDI Interface
http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=758 with Reaper on a vintage single core AMD 3000+ PC I built a few years ago, and again, don't have lagging.

But, if I were you, I would have brought a BOSS BR-800 http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=1068&ParentId=110. I have one and recorded 'Far East' on it, plus it comes bundled with SONAR LE, and can work as a audio interface and surface controller.

IMO, you would spend more time recording, than learning how to record.

I downloaded it. If I come up with something good, I'll upload it.

Here's my first experiment recording to the computer using Tony's backing track. I kept it simple, kink of oriental surf. I don't have any pedals, just a Delta Lab multi-effect, so I was a bit limited on sounds. It's rough but I had fun. I hope this link works:
