Although I'm not into shredding I believe that the Epiphone Firebird would be a perfect shred guitar too as it has what appears to be a very flat neck radius-at least 12"-it plays like a dream with the low action but the flat radius can take a while to adjust to after playing Strats for so long.

love the firebird have thought of getting one... major GAS attacks i've been getting lately

to many choices and way to many "starter pack" junk.

never saw it that way...

:? but you said above, "true fender should go another way with things... more colour options less models".
right?

lol sorry i thought you meant that to my opinion on how fender should be... but i still think it's a good idea... they should focus on the spare parts industry too i find it to be a disgrace that fender has stopped producing black 3-ply hss pickguards... it's a better way of doing things than music man ;)

This is interesting. Very recently I bought an Ibanez RG350 off Craig's List (first time I ever bought anything from there) and the main reason I bought it was the shark-tooth inlay on the fretboard [and the fact that it was listed way cheaper than a new one on-line]. During the 80's almost all the shredders played such guitars and I always thought the neck inlay design was cool.

Back in December or January, I bought a great course called 50 Shred Licks You Must Know by Jeff Beasley from TrueFire.com and started working my way through it. I was finally able to do sweep picking (something I had never been able to grasp until this course). The guitar was sort of a gag in a way at shredding.

Now for the really funny part, even though I have that guitar that was made for shred, and even though I am hoping to take another course with Beasley on TrueFire's new Guitar Sherpa program, the guitar I almost always use when I practice the shred licks is my 2006 HSS Stratocaster. I just love strats and they can get the job done! Plus they never go out of style.

my charvel model 4 is my #1. it is as solid as a rock. never let me down. recently i've been gigging with a mim and american strat with single stacked humbuckers in the bridge. these guitars are just fun to play and attractive to look at. plus, they sound great. the charvel has earned it's retirement and i'm content to play her at home.
i agree with waycool. some of those guitars might look a little weird but so do i. main thing is that they deliver. damn good instruments in my opinion. damn good.
