is it just me or have shred guitars been hitting the vintage market lately? (beginning of 2010) more specifically ibanez, jackson and bc rich guitars from the 80's are getting a lot of atention lately from what i've been noticing and some models (iceman, randy roads, rg, s, mocking bird, warlock, bich, etc) have become more iconic and famous... could it be just my imagination? if not, why is that?

these guitars have always been popular. they arent becoming "iconic" lately, they always have been in high demand, just even more so now that the better ones are harder to find.
the jackson, 80's ibanez, kramer, ESP, were some of the best guitars ever built for shred as they were the originals. fender and gibson didnt have a leg to stand on during that decade. funny thing is when they started building these guitars in japan rather than the US, quality didnt drop one ounce either. 99% of the time you couldnt tell if you were playing a US model or a japan model. i still have several of my 80's collection i personally played back then and have been steady buying them as i find them. in my opinion, some of the mid grade of these guitars spank most of the higher end stuff thats out now.
the charvel and jackson guitars build during that time are some of the best playing, best sounding guitars EVER build.

i love jackson guitars myself my 2 favourite guitar finishes of all time are inferno red and absinthe frost and the first guitar i've ever wanted was the jackson dk2 dinky in inferno red then i got into fenders but i still love jacksons... and i agree with you on the mid grade fenders

lol no problems. they are nice.
those were the better yrs for squier too. squier was made as good as a mim back then in my opinion.

yeah i personally think squier was better off (in quality) when it was considered a fender series of guitars than a sub brand but then again i don't think we'd have as many squier models as we have today if it wasn't for the promotion of the squier series into the brand it is today...

thats one of my major biotches. fender and gibson both have way to many models in their line up. i honestly wonder just how many models fender has on the market for sell today? gibson too? im talking just strats and LP's only too by the way.

true fender should go another way with things... more colour options less models all of them with the universal route that they have been using... probably create some more historically correct models for those 50's 60's and 70's fans and all the mods they've been doing themselves over the years they should leave to us (except for the fat strat... it's been going strong)... they should also concentrate more on the guitar parts market

never saw it that way... though it would probably be more affordable than musicman's way of making guitars (you choose pratically every spec on them as long as it's part of the factory specs these are practically custom instruments which could explain why they're so darn expensive)... notice that even the sterling sub brand is way too expensive for the clients musicman is targeting

Although I'm not into shredding I believe that the Epiphone Firebird would be a perfect shred guitar too as it has what appears to be a very flat neck radius-at least 12"-it plays like a dream with the low action but the flat radius can take a while to adjust to after playing Strats for so long.
