1959: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson all die in a plane crash, hailed as "The Day Music Died."

1970-1971: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Duane Allman die. The Beatles officially split.

1980: Many music legends die, John Lennon, Bon Scott, Ian Curtis, John Bohnam

1986: GLAM METAL makes hard rock music pretty, which a growing number of people are opposed too.

1989: Guitar music seems dead, Big hair and sappy ballads, Metal lacks freshness, nothing is happening.

1994: Kurt Cobain kills himself, Grunge music is shattered and looses mainstream attention within the following months, completely ending within two years.

2010: Most of the once "saviors of rock n roll" have broken up such as The White Stripes and Bloc Party, while the remaining fail to make relevant records such as The Strokes "Angels." Music seems pretty dead and boring.

I actually really like what I've heard of the new strokes album, but then I liked first impressions, so what do I know?

How long do you reckon it will be until someone comments saying the year nevermind was released was the worst year?

well we all have our opinions, popular opinion is nevermind was one of the best complete rock albums of all time, and the strokes new album can be good all it wants, the strokes have lost their impact seeing as how they were hyped way to early

I'm going with 2010.. was pretty shocking in my opinion.. although 2011 seems to be turning things around a bit, there have been some good albums released this year so far !

Argh! As with all popularity polls for things over time the results are skewed toward the most recent. This is how Ken Griffey, Jr. ended up on the 100 Players of the 20th Century and Stan Musial was left off. Or how The Simpsons ranked a lot higher than M*A*S*H on the all-time top 100 sit-coms.
