You all may remember the fight our town had with our town council about them agreeing in principal for a developer to build 6 mansions on designated parkland.This area was named by National Geographic Traveller as the most desireable coastal destination in the world.A core group of about 12 of us started a campaign to fight this and local media passed us off as a NIMBY bunch,completely disregarding the fact that the development's lighting would play havoc to the seabird population(of which is the largest in North America) and destroy our tourist trade.
Council asked for letters of concern as they are legislated to do and in this town of just 400 people of voting age they got over 1,400 letters in just a 10 day period.We got letters from literally all around the world with people stating their disgust over councils decision.
It's still up to council whetehr or not to OK this project but they'd be commiting political suicide if they approved it now.I'd like to thank all the forum members that took the time to write as I know for sure that some of you joined the protest.Thanks very much again as each voice makes the choir stronger.Derek.
