It's the beauty of bass, you either "are" or "aren't" a bassist at heart. It's the least glamorous spot, no one really seems to know what you're really playing, until you stop

People notice the singer and lead player, and they can visually see what the drummer is doing, but they don't realize that the groove their moving too is primarily what you're providing. I do alot of the vocals so that gives me some reason to "stand out" in the band but otherwise your contributions are not in the forefront of people's minds. It's just fun to play, having your bass amp rumbling up from behind you, you're grooving man!

Why do you think there are so many jokes about bass players hanging out with musicians? :D

I played bass for one my bands, through a full stack Marshall. I used to love to face the amp and have my base lines come back and thump me in the chest. I just got fitted for hearing aids. Probably just a coincidence though.

I play bass, a Squire P-Bass, on all my demos, like this one "U Kicked My Heart in the Butt" http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10053707, based on what Scott said to Envy.

Unless you're sure you're going to stay with doing bass, a decent used rig. What amp are you using for your six stringer? If the brand makes a bass amp model, you may start looking there. Same for your axes. Have fun man!

Fender Bassman amps have been used for years for both bass and six stringers. It sounds like a very good plan.
