I didn't look at the screen when I listened and I chose number one. After when I saw what the guitars were I was kind of surprised. The first one sounded fuller and a bit more overdriven and the 2nd was a bit thin sounding and trebley.

I like tone1. It sounds warmer and has that fuzz tone to it like what I'm liking at the momment. Really 60s kinda vibe tone.

Tone 1 all the way, I've got really tired of listening to blues guy's playing their strats off their neck pickups with this thin, light, can't hear half the notes sound.
Tone 1 has a full, fat mid-range sound that carries every note through the mix, with sustain and, well basically it's got some balls.
Strats can do that, so why the hell don't they start giving it some.
Actually I play my Tele off the bridge pup and it sounds pretty close to tone 1.

I really like both. Before you say tone 1 because it is thicker, go back and listen to the harmonics/overtones whatever you call it in tone 2.

But they are hardly there, because the sound is too thin, drums/cymbals suck off the high freeks and the bass takes out the low freeks, so there is hardly anything left coming through the mix. Or what is has no guts.

I prefer tone 1 it has that classic Clapton sound from back in the day. It's just a ballsier, bluesy sound. I think Strats really shine when playing Texas blues, just my humble opinion :D

I like #2. Humbuckers always sound too flat to my ears. I like the sound of single coils best I suppose. And now that I've said that, I've never been much of a fan of Clapton's tone. His playing is incredible, but I think he could find some better settings on his amps.

If you make me choose between these two, I guess I would take number two, but for that song, the best tone he ever got on would be a tie between the one from the Layla album or the tone he got on the EC Was Here album...at least tone wise...but every version he plays of this song is just phenominal!

It's not that tone 2 is bad, it's that it's bad for what he plays.

Two is so clean and beautiful. I like 1 also, an overdriven 335 kicks $@! but I love that strat tone. That why I play one.

I voted for #2 with EC playing his Strat. I liked #1 also with its beefy sound too, but I like #2 a little better. It's probably due to the clarity of the tone and because EC has played a Strat for decades.

It was cool seeing Clapton with a 335 though. Kinda reminded me of some old Cream photos and Blind Faith photos, when he had a 335 along with his SG and a Firebird back then.
