for the first time in many years i am looking for a wah. didn't realize how many there are in different price ranges

true bypass- do i need it- does it keep the signal cleaner?
"touch" type - no footswitch- on as soon as you touch the pedal- any feelings on this?

i have been looking at the bad horsie, vox847a, and the dunlop classic.

any thoughts on these or others?

I have had both the vox847a, and the dunlop classic and I like the Vox better. The Vox seems to have a sweeter tone and a longer sweep/range. :D

FWIW

Wah's are really subjective. I don't use it that often mine's just a plain old Crybaby. I'll use it more as a tone shaping tool than a Wah. For the couple of songs I might use it on, it ain't no biggie and unless it sounds like an icepick in the forehead, your audience won't be able to tell the difference if you have a ten dollar wah or a two hundred dollar wah. You just need to go out and try a bunch and see what you like. I wouldn't really worry about the true bypass. I'd worry more about cord length. Minor tone sucking isn't anything that can't be controlled with a tweak of the tone controls. Some are a little more "vocal" than others. It's just a matter of taste. BYOC also has a wah kit. A friend of mine built one, tweaked it and it blows away any Vox I've ever heard. When mine dies, that's the route I'm taking. It will fit in any Vox of Crybaby housing. BYOC also sells a complete kit.

This is right. In fact, some players positively like the slight attenuation of the top end that non-true bypass wah gives, and search out that sort of pedal accordingly.

I was watching Bonamassa's gear vid just the other day, and he says that whereas all his other pedals have true bypass he uses a Vox V846 precisely for that slight high end suck. Erm - if you'll excuse the phrase.

Cheers - C

let's get to my true bypass question.

the only other device i will be using is my zoom g2nu. the question i have is simple- will the wah pedal have any effect on the tuning accuracy of my processor?

and as a follow up- would a true bypass be more accurate? obviously i am taking about tuning with the wah in the off position

As far as wahs go,I'd pick a Vox over a Dunlop any day for both tone and reliability. Also worth checking out are the Teese RMC Picture wah and the Fulltone Clyde, they both have the authentic original Vox "vomit/bark" tone that made them so great.

try the zak wylde wah. the pedal tention is adjustable, something i havent seen in another pedal but very important in my thinking.

its all about the hendrix wah, shaped to match the original thomas organ wah form back when it first came out

Bluesguitar65...Your tone sounds very nice, pretty cool...a little more Hendrixy than Claptonesque...for me the wah wah test is always the intro and tone from Creams White Room...if it passes that test, I am GTG...and don't let anyone tell you can't get back to your youth...every time I rip into some Cream, D &TD, the Nuge, or some REO I feel young all over again :!: :!: :!:

I played a number of different wahs including most mentioned hee. I walked out with the Ernie Ball Wah because it sounded best to my ears. It was a little more expensive but I haven't regretted it.
