Hi all,

i am looking into getting a fairly cheap, "working" guitar to take to places and use, for possibly many different styles, but not very heavy stuff. I thought i had decided on a Strat, but realised i had glossed over the tele. Now, which do people recommend?

I posted here to get non biased opinions....

i played both in the shop and went with the strat. It just seemed to be a lot better for sound and feel.
I have had my strat nearly a year now and i cant fault it on anything :)

both are really solid beautiful guitars. given the choice i would pick the strat but neither would be a mistake. i just like jags and strats more (TOTALLY personal preference)

for long play time the strat will be more comfortable, contour edges, both guitars have a lot of range in what they can to put you can get quite close the tone of a tele if u add a push pull pot into the strat for the option of having both bridge and neck pups on...

The Strat body is moor fit friendly, and for long periods of playing is an easier instrument to hold on to.
I have an American Tele and a MIM Strat and find myself reaching for the Strat moor often. :) you'l find that they are boath verry COOL GUITARS.

I've got both and while I LOVE playing the Strat (as others have said it's more comfortable) there's just something that always draws me back to my Tele. The Tele also seems to stay in tune better.

You can't go wrong with either. I have a slight preference for the Tele, but like them both. Try them both out side by side and see which one 'speaks' to you more. :P

Both are great guitars but the Strat may have a bit of an edge due to it being more comfortable to play and having a broader tonal range. Why don't you buy a used one of each instead of buying new.

I have and love both...
That said, I'd go with a Tele for the ability to hit a wide range of styles.

I started with a Tele and played it for many years before discovering the
versatility of the Strat. I didn't like the Strat at first because I was really
so comfortable with the sound that my ears were normally hearing with my
Tele and the Strat didn't have that...but it didn't take long to see that
both guitars are quality instruments and your amps and processors have
a big affect on your sound as well.

I'd say go with what feels, plays and sounds best to YOU.

Good luck!

A player must have both... I like the sharp bite of a Tele neck pickup and the $@!&* slap of twang a Strat can give. In your shoes I would get the Strat now and the Tele soon after.
