I am looking to buy come CDs released by John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed and I need some recomendations.

I have allot of Blues musicians in my collection but if anyone can recommend some good blues CDs to purchase that would be great also.

I have Albert King, Frddie King, BB King, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Sonny Boy W, Little Walter, Magic Sam, Earl Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, JB Lenior, Blind Willie J, Robert Johnson, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, T-Bone Walker of the top of my head.

Any suggestions would be appreciated as allot of the good CDs I have right now have been recommended from this website.

Some of my favorites:

Joe Bonamassa
Derek Trucks Band
Walter Trout
Lonnie Mack
Matt Schofield
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

A lot of Gov't Mule stuff is pretty bluesy, but they're not pure blues and have a lot of songs that aren't really bluesy at all. But great tunes nonetheless.

Some great suggestions there, especially Matt Schofield. He's one of my favorites. :D

You could also look into:

Alan Haynes (look him up on youtube, you'll have trouble finding his CDs outside of Texas though)
Blind Willie Johnson
Carolyn Wonderland
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown
Doyle Bramhall
The Fabulous Thunderbirds (the first three records especially, from the late 70s/early 80s)
Guitar Slim
Johnny Copeland
Johnny Winter
Kenny Burrell (jazzy blues or bluesy jazz, one of SRV's influences)
Leadbelly
Mance Lipscomb
Melvin "Lil' Son" Jackson (if you like Lightnin' Hopkins, you'll like him)
Robben Ford
Son House
Texas Alexander

That's just an assortment of what's on my iPod currently. It's a pretty eclectic mix.

Another good way to find out about lesser known artists (aside from finding out who your influences influences are) is to seek out compilation CDs. You can find things like a blues sampler in the bargain bin at most music retailers. I've found a lot of old delta blues that way, sometimes you hit the jackpot with compilations like that.

I'd never heard of him until you put up that post on him a few months back. He's just one of many I've heard of through these forums.

You know, he's currently on a U.S. tour. You should check it out and see if he's playing somewhere nearby. :) http://www.mattschofield.net/shows.html

Interesting...Looks like he'll be in San Francisco in August, which also happens to be my birth month. Maybe I'll drop some hints for an early birthday concert.

I have looked for Matt Schofield in every record store I go near and can't find any of his stuff. What is the name of some of his albums?

Well, here's his website. That should have information about the albums. http://www.mattschofield.net/home.html

I've never seen any in stores. I had to cave in to the "I'd really rather have a CD" thing and download it off of iTunes.

Check out Heads, Tails and Aces, it's one of his best for sure.

You need to add some Rory Gallagher to your collection.

Muddy Waters' Hard Again album is awesome.

Tab Benoit's one of my favorites...his discs are good, but he's a million times better live.

Slim Harpo
Lincoln Durham
Bernard Allison
Buddy Whittington
Fabulous Thunderbirds' first three albums, and also their disc "Roll of the Dice" from 1995(?)
Kim Wilson's solo discs are all awesome, especially "Lookin' for Trouble" and "Smokin' Joint"
The Screamin' Armadillos "Dirty Texas Groove" (but that's out of print right now, so it's hard to find)...
