Hi Rhumba: you gotta go for it! :D

I must admit, I can't recall ever hearing anything very tuneful coming out of a theremin. But I always wanted one just so's I could leave it set up near the front door, so when visitors go to hang up their coats, suddenly... inexplicable screechy alien noises fill the air. Cue visitors jumping out of their skins with looks on their faces of "what the...?"

Cheers - C

We've all heard it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdjL8WXjlGI

Yeah!! forgotten about that one Nutter but is it a Theremin? that musical saw sounds close

Ooooooh,

Gives me the idea to put a blend effect/clean control on there. Guitar input/output. Big hole to sense the toes. Throw it in your effects loop.

Some top musicians are still using theremins, so, if you've never seen one, take a look.
A real cool dude demonstrating here. 8)

Now I realise that I have heard the sound before and had no idea where it was comeing from. I dont understand the electrical theory behind it all. Can someone Explane in bone head language / terms how this cool thing works? Thanks.

Hi Danny, if you go back to the link above, the guy that's demonstrating there does about 8 lessons. You'll get an idea of how it works if you watch through them.

Just been checking out Tomita and I can't find him using Theremins. It's multi layering of 70's top end state of the art synths with much imagination thrown in.
It was mind blowing in it's day and I've got some 'Snowflakes Are Dancing' here, if anyones interested.

Nice one Solid, 'Yes' did some awesome stuff.
Here's some Zep, I've been trying to find somebody using a Theremin and well, here's Jimmy and you can almost make it out in the darkness. You can hear it anyway and it shows how effective these can be in the right song, time, place, performance etc.

You would have to run the theremin through an Echoplex and then into a Marshall for full effect. It would be great!

Yes, I was thinking, lots of reverb, I think that's the way to go with these.
