You should have had an option of BOTH.

I use both.

I'd rather have tab, of course, it's a lot easier. But if I want the song bad enough and can't find the tab, then I'll try and tab it out. Which is something I hardly ever do.

I use both but I try to favor playing by ear.

I prefer to figure stuff out by ear. The times I've tried tabs I've found them to be wrong in many ways, but a decent place to start if you need a hint.

I am a wanker because I use tabs to learn a song. I have always spent a lot more time making songs up. I really only play existing songs when I don't have any inspiration or just want to practice my mechanics. I still feel like a wanker for going the tabs route though.

With hearing damage from loud cars, trucks, machines, and music I find it difficult to use the ear method. Although I do sometimes guess correctly. LOL

If its fairly simple, I can usually figure it out by ear. However, for more complex song, either tabs, or I take a quick look at some of the guitar books at my local store with proper music notation

I wish I could find books that have tab that I've been looking for. Not finding it on the internet is one thing, but when it's not in any books, then it's "tab-out" time.
