The person who owns that stage determines your rights while you happen to occupy it.

Musicians ignore that to their professional peril.

That's his point.

If you are told what to do..........and you do it...........why are you playing music?

Get a day job.

(no offense to all of the toe-the line subservient, corporate drones reading this. You are winners too!!!)

Some people make lots of money playing in bands where they are not the headliner and that is their job.
All you ever do is put people down in every one of your posts calling people clowns and such.....but yet,in doing so,it makes you look like an idiot.
But I'm sure you're a big name musician who just pops in every once in awhile to get his kicks making fun of all the little people who haven't had the success you enjoy, aren't you?Yeah, you're a real winner too.......

Back in the day, we had "showbands" and had uniforms that we wore.
Usually a black vest, black slacks and solid blue shirts or something
similiar.

Later it changed to just black slacks and shirts but occasionally we wore
tuxes for corporate function gigs.

ditto....when you're trying to survive by playing music in clubs and other places where you're depending on being booked.
we used to make really good money in a local place near Nashville, but the owner had rules against musicians drinking booze onstage,we didn't like it but the money was good and we drank our share later. :)

Post back here when you get a reply. I'll be waiting...or shoving knitting needles in my eyes. Both of those things are not going to happen. I know it. You know it.

This picture is from my very first roadband (circa 1969). We played all over the east coast of the U.S. I believe this was in a Battle of the Bands final that we won :

Wish I still had that Guild Aristocrat!

I've always wanted to be in a ska band. If I were, I would like to wear the 2-tone, sixties mod suits on stage.

"Artists" are a breed apart from working professionals, gentlemen.

I'm not sure where all this sturm und drang is coming from.

Bob Dylan reminded us that we're all "gonna have to serve somebody," so I'm glad that you figured out a way to be in the position to not have to answer to anyone.

You must not be married, or you don't have a serious girlfriend.

You must be independently wealthy, with no executor or controller of your finances.

You must be an atheist, or at least an agnostic...that doesn't mean you don't have to answer somewhere along the line, it just means you're able to fool yourself right now.

You must be able to fly, because the laws of physics, nature and gravity don't apply to you, either.

As far as being "told what to do" with music: We all put some limitation of some sort on ourselves, unless you are a solo performer with no band members to have to follow your (obviously perfect) instructions...the members of the band have to be in some sort of synchronization, or it would be called "crap." If they are following your instructions on the chord changes or the breaks within the song, are they not being "true artists"? If they are not "true artists" such as yourself, how do you lower your standards to play with such subservient sheep?

And if you are at the point where you do not have to listen to anyone at all about what you play, I would like for you to go and play a song or a set of songs that not welcomed by a group of bikers, or rednecks, or gang members...you might try doing what you're told at that point, or you (and/or your equipment) might not make it out to the car in one piece.

I mentioned earlier wearing a suit and tie for a performance in a jazz club; I didn't mind, and I thought it was appropriate. Would I have donned the same clothing for a gig at a biker bar? No, even though there wouldn't have been anything "wrong" with it, it wasn't appropriate for the audience.

Rungren is a brilliant musician, producer, songwriter and performer. I don't know if you're just a fan, or you have some actual connection to him...either way, I think he understands that everyone gets something different out of performing...whether it's a creative outlet, for money or a combination thereof. He would probably respect the guy who (truthfully) says, "XYZ is why I do this," rather than arrogantly dismissing them as you have.

..and your approval means so much to all of us corporate drones that have to hire arrogant little unteachable jackasses such as yourself: Thank you from the bottom of my bottom.
